Fuzzy's Farm

Where is everyone?

I just got home from my youngest DDs track meet. I gotta say, nothing says "even though I know my kid isn't going to be great at this, I'm here because I love my kid" like sitting in the freakin' cold for 2 1/2 hours to watch said kid run 70 meters. Brrr!

Lol, my friend Jan told her kid she would cheer for her from Zeeland where it was warm! Lol

Anyway, I am not happy... My 23 buck coop is going to cost more than 23 bucks... The wood I was going to use for my roof I am now going to use for the floor... I thought it was bigger... Its4x4... My coop is 4x4. That's what I get for flying by the seat of my pants!

Hey everyone:

Boy I remember those days of watching kids in athletics. Three boys and we were going to anything that bounced. I didn't mind basketball 'cause at least you were inside but soccer - oh my gosh. It about did me in. The fields were curved so the rain would drain off but that also meant that the wind whipped over them twice as fast. It would be so cold in the spring that you'd have to hide under three blankets and peek out of a little hole and still you'd freeze. Can't say I'm sad that sports are over but then I just learned that they are enrolling the three year old in soccer. IT'S GOING TO START ALL OVER AGAIN - GAAAAH!

Sorry about the lumber, Nova. That sucks.

Baby chicks will be 8 weeks old next weekend. They've been in the big coop for about three weeks with hardware cloth separating their 'brooder' from the big girls. Everything I read says you should integrate the flocks and add the young to the existing at 8 weeks. What do you all think? I don't want the 'babies' to get beaten up too badly...

Have you seen Olive? And where's Rusty? Mom2? BYFM? I miss everyone!

Just popping in!
I have been volunteering at my MILs church ALL WEEK!!! Helping them set up for their rummage sale and helping them sell sell SELL!!!

I am totally pooped!
Good night!

Looks like everyone is AWOL again. Just too nice to be inside, I guess. Wish I could've spent more time out there today, but my body said 'heck no'. Had a monstrous headache this morning and now I just ache all over, but have no clue why. I feel like I was the one jumping the hurdles yesterday instead of DD.

WHEW! What a day!

I started the coop yesterday... Just got the framing done, and realised that flying by the seat of my pants wasn't the bestest of ideas. BUT we are talking about me. Anyway, I took the whole thing apart. I remade it 4x3.5. I am making a nest box off the side so that it's not part of the floor space. Since there will only be the two girls in there, I think just the one will be fine. I was saying that my $23 coop was going to be more, but NOPE. Neighbor (Carl) gave me hinges, screws and here it the best part, METAL ROOF! with the nails for it. SO, now I can take the roof I was going to have and use it for a door and as part of it for a nest box door! SO! We are in like.. YES! $23 coop!

Here is what it's looking like at the moment... ONLY more is done on it. the side over the nest box is also on. Still need to cut the wood to shape for the top triangles, but I am thinking, I might make shutters that I can put on and off depending on the weather, and then put hardware clothe in those triangles, to keep it cooler in the summer...

Anyway, the metal roof will over hang all the way around. HEY, Don't go thinking those are really for sale signs, this is not for sale... Unless you wanna give me a couple hundred bucks. LOL. Just kidding. Like I said... The back and the side facing are wooded up. The back has a 2 inch gap the will get covered with hardware clothe also then covered over in the winter. But for the summer, it will allow the west wind through also.

I also got the run cleaned up as much as I could today. There is still a lot of mud in there, and wow, a lot of dirt from outside ended up inside. Not complaining on that.. Anyway, was able to get the summer area opened up also so air can get through there. I am hoping that by the end of the weekend this it'll be dry enough to get all the rest of that west straw out. Smell has already improved.

I hope to also by the end of this weekend to have the Marans moved to this coop. Right now they are in pen in the run, and they are ok with it, but they need an actual COOP. I will work on building them a run over the summer. When they have the 5 foot high fencing on sale, they'll get it. Yes, I am still going to use the old swing set as a run. Talk about repurposing!

Anyway, my neck hurts, my head aches, my feet feel like someone fat has been walking all over creation on them... oh wait... my feet hurt from walking so much today... BUT Got a lot accomplished. OH, AND I moved that frame from my drive way to the back using a winter sled. Man.. who would have ever thought a sled would come in so handy. We put it up on the sled, my neice and nephew kept it steady and I pulled till we got it in place! SO, that's why my arms hurt. Gracious I am so filthy.

x 50!

I like the coop, sorry about the doggy ear, integrating babies.... well, they always get kinda beat up. :( Best thing is to start intro's OUTSIDE, where they can run if they need to, and for the inside lots of food and water dishes so they can get to one. The big girls won't want to share, so.... and i like to put buckets and whatnot all around for handy escapes and foils! And a few extra hidey holes and higher roosting spots temporarily.

Most important, if you give treats give the big girls theirs first and in front of the babies; the babies are last and hidden if possible (I let the big ones out first, then go in with the littles and give treats and keep them in a little longer to let them eat and drink without the meanies.) Pecking order is huge, and if you forget and feed a baby first, they will REMEMBER and that poor baby....... (I've done it to hope, and she STILL is ostracized!) :p

News; I may be getting a handyman special in coopersville. It's a dump though! Would need EVERYTHING! Stove, fridge, shower, toilet (hey anyone know where there's an almond colored one?) I have a pedestal sink for the bath (almond) I've been approved, i just need to get the courage; i'd be going it alone. DH don't wanna be DH anymore. Or just wants friends with .....? Idk but what IS clear is i'm moving on my own, but though it's a poopy trailer in a poopy town, it is by the highway and would allow for me to keep my chickens where they are for now, as long as his family allows...
