Fuzzy's Farm

Well, hope you feel better kiddo. Having the flu sucks.

Today I made homemade beef stew. WITH THE THINK BROTH! I have never managed the thick broth. The plan was to have a roast, but the cost of the roast was like... $13! FOR2 POUNDS OF BEEF! YOU HAVE TO BE EPHEN KIDDING ME! I wish I could raise my own feeder cow. ANYWAY! Man, it turned out really good after simmering in the pan for 2.5 hours. WOW. I AM GOOD!

I guess I will have to wait till I start having hens not lay... Maybe in a few years. I want to get the yokos and the phoenix established first.
Thanks, it does suck, doesn't it?

I was wondering what you meant think broth. LOL!

Feel better CF4L!

Nova...Sounds delish!!!!
I buy the cheap round steak and cut it into small pieces and season it in the crock pot with Lowreys seasoning salt, celery salt, crushed garlic, and red pepper
I cube potatoes and cut up onions and celery and let them all cook for 5 hours... then I add peas, carrots, and corn
I let them cook for another 2-3 hours (or until I can't stand to wait any longer!)
Mmmmm So good! The meat just falls apart and the potatoes thicken the broth a little.

Aw, thanks, BYF...

One of my chicks just got run over in the broody hen tractor... my brother was pulling it to a grassy spot and accidentally ran over one. It isn't gonna live... I feel like a bad chicken mom... :'(

All right. Just got done with Operation Check them Eggs. I'm not really good at this, but I'm pretty sure that 4 are doing good. Of the other 5, 2 not sure and 3 couldn't see through (they were ee eggs). So I guess I'll check again in about 5 days or so.

I had a great alarm clock this morning... Ok, I was already waking up, but, this just made it quicker.

I hear chirping. The chirping is getting louder. Louder, why does it sound like it is in my bedroom louder... What is going on in the garage, no, that's not the garage babies.... That's in my room!! I jump up, turn on the light, and there is a phoenix in my bedroom, a cat following it. AND IT'S THE CAT WITH CLAWS! The cat, LIttle girl, however knows what chicks are, and she knows that usually there is a momma bird around that'll attack her. She's been attacked several times by one momma or another. So, I get the phoenix, bring him back upstairs, he was getting cold, and set him back in with his brood mates. LOL. Poor thing. Looks like one of the cats needed entertaining, and pulled the paper down off of the sides, and the phoenix got through. LOL. Anyway... Just funny how it made it to my room, downstairs! From the Kitchen!

Both my EE's from townline died. I do not know what was wrong with them, but i think it was genetic. The other chick from that group, the ASL, she's going strong. All the other chicks in the garage are too, it was just the two EEs... ANYWAY... I want to have these in my nest boxes...

You could still have one or two of my EE hens.............

Robin, did you keep or give the Orloffs?

Incubating Part Two

My mom let me know that the eggs came in the post today. I was so excited I almost didn't want to stop and get chicken feed. I did stop though. I mean, chickens need to eat too. But I did it quick, with out my usual BSing.

I got home and sweet! Another styrfoam box, only this time marked as GLASS and fragile. Interesting... hole in the side of the box, and dented... Opened up the box and wetness. Egg yolk and yuck. It is my guess, some one at the post wanted to see if it really was glass in the box. Running total on destroyed eggs...
White Yokos 4
Polish 1
Red shoulder 3
Jap Bantams 2

I still need to candle the other 37 eggs to see what damage has been done to those, but there were no cracks in those that I could see. So, I am going to go and get some egg wipes for hatching eggs. Some of the eggs that were fine were soaked from egg white and yolk from other eggs. It's amazing how different both packages were treated. I guess some one at the post was having a really bad day.

I am sure it will not do any good, but I am thinking of leaving a not so happy comment on the service the post just provided.

You should have taken pics of carton outside and in. Then go to the PO with the complaint. And not have been so nice. Sorry, you probably should have had teeville handling them. I believe she would have treated them better. If any are cracked (but not too bad I read you can seal crack with nail polish or crayon.
