Fuzzy's Farm

About those blueberries... Gave a bag to my sister, a bag to my friend from work, and made 5 16oz jars of blueberry jam, one 8 oz jar and froze 2 gallons. I still have one bag to clean and pick through that I am going to make pie and more jam out of. Now... about the jam. I have never made jam before, wow, was that easy. I have never canned either, though last year I did want too, but people were constantly stealing my produce and between that and what we consumed, never got to can anything. Well, I canned for the first time and YEAH! I am happy with myself. Sweet.

The jam, by the way, is really good. I did a spoon test before jarring it, and it set perfect!

would it be too personal to ask how he got it? I can't even imagine how you both are feeling right now. Survived a tornado but gets struck down with hepatitis. Kinda like alanis morsett's "isn't it ironic" song. :/ You both have been in my thoughts much lately, hoping for the best.

Will his dr work with herbs as well as traditional medicine? There are a few herbs that are ok for ongoing use that help detox the liver for stuff like this? Milk thistle springs to mind off the get but idk how they interact with meds.
Not at all. My DH was pretty wild in his heyday -- got his degree at Berkley and then taught there for a couple of years until offered position in OK. He was involved the heyday of the 60's and all the stuff that went on at Berkley. You would never know it now - he's this extremely well-respected philosophy professor. He thinks he probably got it sometime during those years. Either that or during a surgery for tonsils in his early twenties where he almost died and had to have 4 quarts of blood. They didn't test then like they do now. I don't know what I would do without him.

He takes milk thistle. I don't think his dr thinks too much about alternative therapies but I'm researching everything. Depending on the news we get, he'll probably go on interferon and the new Hep C antiviral regimen. That just depends on the liver biopsy.

Sorry to not be on here so much lately. DH hasn't been doing well last couple of days - just not feeling good from the surgery which is normal. But I've been involved in taking care of everything so get kind of busy. Thank you so much for thinking of us. You all on this board have been such a great thing for me.

Well, I am sure he's got some stories he could burn our innocent little ears with. LOL. Make sure to take a breath here and there ok. We're here for you!

I just made my first two ever homemade fresh blueberry pie... That is, you don't cook the blue berries on the stove and make the filling first, you put the blueberries fresh in the pie crust. ALSO I did a lattice top. Thought about doing a crumble top, but changed my mind.

AND made 4.5 quarts of pectin free jam... will be more runny obviously, so better for toppings than a pb and jam samich.

sorry i haven't been on much the last several days, been dealing with a sick baby d'uccle. Turned out to be a lung issue, had crackly lungs. I put her on the powdered meds from tsc, can't think of the name right now. She's still not out of the danger zone but doing MUCH better. Also brought home my heat lamp, since mom isn't big enough to keep month old babies under her sufficiently warm anymore.

Also the migrain thing hasn't gone away, i think it's my blood pressure for some reason. Head feels funny, feel like i have cotton in my ears and sometimes a squealy ring in my ears. All signs of blood pressure being high; whatever it is is draining my energy big time and i feel weak as heck!

Bumblefeet have improved much from the same powdered meds in the water. All except for hope and her sister, so have to switch it up for them. I might have to suck it up and start the penecillin shots. I want to say it's duramycin that they were on? Anyway whatever it is i have to rotate out with a different class of antibiotic.

My silkie has bumble foot... I think it must be contagious. LOL So many on the MI thread have birds with this problem right now.

Tumeric, Fuzzy... There are also supplements at the health food stores that are specific for blood pressure. Stop at a pharmacy and use a blood pressure machine to see where you are at. In the mean time, eat come fresh garlic on some foods, and watermelon.. Hope you feel better. Might be that you are stressing the poop out of yourselft too.

Gigi, hows the hubby? How are you holding up?

Savannah, HI to you too! How's the trailer coming along?

Tee, did you have to work today? Was it just me or did it feel so darn oppressive out there or what? Man... That humidity sucks, glad it wasn't hot.

ANYWAY, got some pics today, so thought I'd share.

My attack victim. She's really feathering in nice. She's also laying again. Her eggs are half the size of what they were, but that's ok. She's healing. Looks like its time for some redcote on those remaining toes though. She's missing 3... only has 7 left. Her feathers are also coming back in salmon, light, but salmon. She's half faverolles, so...

My phoenix boys. Oh, look at those tails!

They are only what? 13-14 weeks? Something like that. They were 7 weeks at chicken stock... I think the blue is considered a crele. Mr. Ed is a bronze breasted red.
And what would I be if I didn't show off the newest additions...

The babies are running around and one mom is on top of the other. Ekta the serema just can't seem to NOT keep out from under another hen when she's broody. LOL. They are working great together. Had the babies out together today too. Hawkarella puffs up as big as a freaking midget turkey. She's dang scary looking when she does. LOL

Ah.... Just sitting at my desk, with our dog who's just been tested non-positive for cancer, and my new dog, Boots. Chilling on BYC for a while, things are finally quiet... Life is good.

So, I haven't posted in a little while. What's up? Yes, I got a new dog. Sadie, my other dog, had bonded really well with my younger sister and my lil sis loved the dog, so I let her have her, seeing as how Sadie and I aren't right for each other. A few weeks later I get my dream dog, a dog who's personality matches mine. She's wonderful. She's my best friend sometimes, too.

Yes, I took the photo. Did I tell you guys about my new camera?)

Hey ya Hannah! What a pretty girl. Very curious face she has there! I got a new camera too a month ago. I love it. Has so many functions and takes these great pics in the dark! The one above with the broody duo, that was taken in the garage in the dark! Has landscape, night, sunset, motion, face recognition... EVEN TAKES VIDEO!

I had to make pre-sneeze sounds to get her to look at me that way!

And I adopted her from the shelter group I am working with. Oh, and, congrats on the new camera!
