Fuzzy's Farm

I have seen a few specks in the air and in some of the rain that has come through, but that's it in my portion of the mitten. Nova on the other hand is probably have a great time with the white stuff. It's kind of a perk for being more inland even if by only 50-60 miles.

My chickens went through their molt about a month ago and now are just being lazy. Not getting many eggs at all, but they do tend to drop off around this time of year so it's not unexpected.

As for me, still super busy. Working almost every day with no end in sight yet. Add in a great deal of stress and family issues and I'm just doing fantastically peachy. Ok, not really, but everything is what it is and I can only do what I can only do. It's not easy to remember that all the time, but I think so far I've done pretty well in not letting it all get the best of me. Although, I can honestly say that the life of a mom can sometimes be absolute h*ll.

Hi all - I hear that MI is getting that nasty white evil drug stuff falling all over the place. We don't - yet. BUT, we do have fog. It's almost noon and just clearing now. it'

Had to take the doggies in for update on vaccines since we are putting them in pet Radisson while we go away for Thanksgiving. Boy, handling two BIG dogs at once was a challenge.

gigiok, we have goats too - I didn't know about their bones, that sounds really challenging for you. I know neither of my girls would stand for splints very long. Hope all goes well.

Stay warm and dry everyone.
I know all about taking big dogs into the vet at once. It's so much fun - NOT! Ha ha - Pet Radisson. Our dogs get a housesitter which reminds me that I need to get someone scheduled also for thanksgiving week. We are headed to Chicago - woo hoo. I've never been so will be pretty neat.

Georgie isn't at all cooperative on keeping her leg wrapped - darn goatie. I've been giving her a bit more alfalfa for the calcicum but that's a double edged sword as goats can get urinary blockages from too much calcium. Geeesh, it's like having kids...

Nova, how's the job? Any improvement? I'm keeping my fingers crossed that things get better.

Fuzzy, I'm with Nova on visiting a ReStore if you can. I've gotten everything from great appliances and sinks and bathtubs to flooring from ours. And it's so cheap!

Hi Tee. I'm actually kind of jealous that you all are getting hints of snow. It's still warm down here and the grasshoppers are eating everything in sight. I need a freeze to rescue my bushes. And I so agree with the "life of a mom". Just remember, they do move out eventually unless like my department chair, you let them stay and stay and stay - ha. I think her son will still be living with her, wrecking her car, giving her more ill... babies to support because he doesn't hold a job, bringing the cops to her house to search for drugs and cursing her out when she doesn't iron his clothes. He'd be out the door so fast if he were one of mine...ha.

Thanks, gigi. Sometimes I just need a little perspective from an outside source to remind me I'm not the only one. When you're in the thick of a bout, though, it's easy to forget. Right now I am sticking to my guns with my oldest daughter. It's called 'tough love' for a reason and I just absolutely hate it. It's not my style, but we're out of all other options on this one so I am doing the best with it that I can while in the middle of all the daily chaos that is my world. At least today I was able to get through the day without dwelling on it too much and that anxiety knot in my chest wasn't there.

It's really hard to have tough love but sometimes you just have to do it. I'm not good at it either. I finally realized that it is very true that you have to take care of yourself -- and then all else follows. If you don't you die early. No way to get around that one - ha.

Hi ya'll! Sorry, I have been very neglectful of BYC lately. It looks like I am always on FB now though, but really I am not. I only finally figured out that when I use my phone, check my FB, if I don't LOG OFF, it looks like I am on all day. AND that is kinda funny. LOL

I got the problem with work straightened out. The boss said it's "pregnancy brain". I hate that excuse. Women who use it... I don't know. I just am irratated by that. BUT the getting up at 4 am is getting to be normal. LOL I am getting used to it.

I got a bunch of the leaves cleaned up in the back. The front still looks full of it. Still have a lot to fall, but stuffed the runs with as much as I could, burned the rest from the back. Going to start stuffing bags here pretty soon. The birds freaked out while I was getting the leaves in the run. Nothing like 40 odd birds doing the squawk of terror. LOL

Ray the silkie has passed. I have no silkie roo now. He was pretty, but pretty worthless as he wasn't mounting the silkie hens. Man... I am not sure I am going to bother getting another one. We'll see.

I gotta go back to working on the yard... and dinner... Can't wait for winter, when there is nothing to do but sit here and shoot the poop!

busy still, i sure would like to visit that store with you nova! We have one here too but hasn't been much there lately. Getting a cell phone, made the decision. Getting house stuff is ok and all, but i need to have time with my friends and family too!!!!!

Chicken news: One of my ee's had gone broody when i wasn't paying attention. Hmm. Last time that happened i lifted a hen and found one peeping! Candled and if they are gonna hatch it's this week. Anyone want ee's? I'm still looking for homes for most of my flock. They aren't doing good being cooped so much. I got a new roo and hen, lemon blue. I don't want to have henry done in, been fighting it tooth and nail but even with my efforts he's not improving much. Still terrified of me, still trying to get me when i turn my back. Put the other two hens in their coop last week, and he is still attacking them and not wanting to adopt them.???

So i'm keeping a trio of the lemon blues , juvinile roo so i can put my d'uccles out there too and not get in trouble with my neighbors. LOL little roo is finding his voice! The other girls need freedom, they are great girls but they aren't happy with small quarters. The blues seem to be calmer as a rule. Trio of blues, trio of porcelain.

Hi All! Great news, third grandbaby born yesterday. Gave us a scare as heartbeat dropped and they did an emergency c section. DIL and baby fine now though. He's got a little conehead from being stuck in mom so long. Poor baby. It'll round out.

My pop door opened in the dark this morning. I've got to reset the timer as something went wrong. My luck a raccoon would be waiting outside just to get some chicken in the dark.

Went a visited a neighbor who ran solar to his barn. He runs lights and small electronics off it. He still has to run electricity from his house for the heater but everything else is solar. I would like to do that to the coop pop door and the Christmas lights (and regular lights) in the barn. I figure $300.00 would set everything up. Now just need to decide if I want to do that this close to Christmas - lol! I think it would help reduce the chance of a barn fire from too many
things plugged into an extension cord.

I can't wait for the holidays this year, a chance to get to connect with family and friends. :) We haven't had any additions this year to the family, though. I was too tired to type my yesterday saga, but here's a highly edited edition of it:

First time in 3 years, i bought a chicken and it literally ran away! Dizzy lemon blue female of the pair. I thought she had that slightly dottie expression like my hope, and since hope's getting picked on by the more active birds she needs a quiet friend. Weeeeeeeell......... I stupidly broke the 3 day in the coop rule to try to pick her up, figured since she was so calm the day before......... Aaagh. She screamed and ran, streaking through the woods and never looked back! I ran after and my guy tried to help but the briars... and i got old barbed wire around the old ankle and face planted. So all day of hollering in the woods, walking for miles trying to find her silly butt. Didn't figure with one night she'd be able to home.

Finally at evening he was out there and heard her fly up to roost, and located her tree. She picked the tallest, scraggliest tree ever! Branches that weeped out from a center, high and very little to climb on; deep v's. Foot kilers! I had to kick off the shoes and climb on branches that were smaller than my wrist. I hurt bad today, but i got her butt! B*** of it was, she knew i was trying to help and talked the whole time, even inched closer and all but would spook at the last second and kept getting higher. A story or more tall in the end! But all is well and i guess i got what i deserved on that one!

I did that a few weeks back. I had two splash Ams cruising the forest and roosting on the topmost hot wire on the fence. I let them be. After a week, I went out one morning and there they were, in the coop with the big girls, on the top roost no less.

No way I'd go dashing through our forest after "chickens"!

Fuzzy, I'm laughing so hard. I can just see you climbing that tree and as soon as you get close, whamm the chicken takes off. Too funny! I'm glad you finally got her. One of our goats got out today but it was so funny because once she was out of the gate she just looked around like "oooh, I don't know if I want to be out here" Then she turned around and went back in. All the other goats rushed up to "hear her tale of her great escape" - lol.
