Fuzzy's Farm

LOL, Poor fuzzy! Fuzzy the Chicken Chaser!

Congrats on the newest addition Gigi! Your goaties crack me up.

Did I tell ya'll that a coon tried to get into my marans coop? Yup, got up on top to the run, ripped a hole in the tarp, bent the fencing where it was sitting, ripped the tarp away from the coop were I had it stapled, and COULDN'T GET IN! HAHAHA! I hope that I have learned my lesson, and I hope it doesn't try to get in on the big coop. The fence doesn't go all the way to the peak, but from where it can get on the tarp roof, that part is fenced all the way to the peak., Just not the center. Will get around to it next year when I replace the tarp. Will need a new one by then.

Got the green house cover on the marans run. Had to do a bit of modification to it so they'd be able to get into their coop. Didn't want to lose any run space, so... Just a bit of modification. Need to get a few yards of crushed concrete soon. Just in the event that we have a flooding again. ick. that was awful.

Where has Savannah been? Haven't seen her on for quite some time....

Anyway, I am tired. Gonna read my favorite threads and go to bed.

LOL. Any luck with the goatie cast? I was thinking about her a lot at work this evening. Perhaps some non-pick ointment? Has to be SOMETHING goats don't eat! :p

But THIS chicken, you see, is a very well dotted rust and blue, they call it lemon blue but there's no "lemon"? Anyway out of 3 years of going to the auction i've seen only the ones i brought home. My first girl that i lost, the broody one i have, and this one. My attempts to breed for this color gave me one blue with rust ish color some places, and the silver and blue roo that i lost to the mystery liver killing sickness. :( The roo that had the red and blue got HUGE but didn't have the spots, and i stupidly let DH's uncle put him down in order to keep henry.

I'm sure there were others, but as i said when i see them i buy them. It's my favorite color, So now i have a trio, and hope will go with them and hopefully somehow the genes will be in my favor and i'll get some funny little basketball hens with the blue polka-dots.

Other news, i got my phone! Big step for me! Spent most of my stove $$$, but if i get desperate i do have one of those little counter top oven things. This means i can get calls! From family and friends! and maybe get BYC on it if i can figure it out.......................LOL. No good with technology. Lots of PB and J's in my future, LOL. But i gots friends again. :D Woot!

broody, and cocoa. The new one is the same, with the polka dots/ heavy lacing. AND the roo has the polka dotted chest too! And blue beard and tail! Excited. My other roo had barely any blue at all. And henry is finely laced, not dotted. Could be why the pattern muddled when bred? And though my plucky boy was silver and black polka dot his girls ended up barred.? He could have been splash though. Or mottled. One odd detail about the roo though: he has the barest hint of "hairy legs" ??? I'll try to get pics ASAP, and see if you guys have any ideas on his background. Small pea comb, but not fully mature so we'll see on the aggression.

Yay that the coon didn't get in, Nova. Good job on racoon proofing. Did I tell you about the baby coon that DH and I saw in the pen one evening. The girls had already gone to roost but it was still a bit light out. This little guy probably didn't know any better, his momma I'm sure was having a heartattack that he was consorting with the giants - us - ha. Anyway, he had come down a tree after squeezing through a place where the aviary netting wasn't tight. He'd go to the opposite side of the tree from where we were. We walked around and he just circled, keeping his tiny eyes on us, but wasn't scared enough to run off. I thought he was so cute - can we keep him cute - but DH reminded me that he'ill grow up to get big and eat chicken for dinner. We chased him off, just couldn't do the little guy in. I know I know, not the wisest but he was soooo cute.

We've tried splinting Georgie's leg but she takes them off. This weekend I'm going to get out there and try a stretchy vet wrap - one of those that are kind of sticky and see if that works. She limps when she's been laying down and then gets up but seems to get around okay during the day. I'm afraid it will turn into arthritis if it keeps going on. Yeah, I wish there was some liniment that I could rub on her that she wouldn't lick off. I've been a bit remiss on adding ACV to their water. I think that is supposed to help with things like that. Nova? Plus, she's going into heat which make Yosi who outweighs her by 30 lbs and is neutered, want to be amorous and mount her. The extra weight doesn't help.. I had a talk with Yosi about his randy behavior but, like with most teenagers, I don't think it sunk in.

What's the weather like up there? Where's Rusty?

It means i can keep up with you guys too;-)

All the busy stuff is good but i. still missed my chicken chat. All the people at work think having chickens is nuts.

A lot of mine waited to molt too. Lookssad

Glad no predator loss on the homefronts. All is well here but i think the broodie lost the babies. The speckled sussex and the barred got jealous and i think they kickef her off at night one day. She is still trying but not as hard and she is shooting mr question eyes. If not it will be sad but it was terrible timing and i am still not sure about henry... she will be paired with the two nrw ones and hope.

Happy Halloween, Everyone!! One of my favorite holidays!!! Kids are so cute dressed up.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Wanna montage best way to mess with your chickens?

Re-arrange the roosts! Yesterday I did most of the winterization on the coops. Just have to do the peaks... I decided to re-do some roosts too in the summer run, since they like It there better than the coops. I made two separate 8 ft roosts instead of 3 that criss crossed, and droppedthem to 4 and 4.5 ft. Made a longer roost in the fav coop also. So... I am cleaning up my mess, and Coco goes in the coop, squeaks sever al times and runs. Now, I think they must have an actual language we just do not get. She came back with several buds in tow, and a squawking fit commenced. It was great. Lol

Ha Ha! I think of course they have a language and more often or not they are talking about us in not so flattering terms - LOL! Went and watched kiddos trick or treat. Four year old, Two year old, and three tiny babies. Total pandemonium. We laughed so hard and then escaped to the calmer confines of our house...
