Fuzzy's Farm

Well... Niece is home. Nephew is staying over. Birds were in the coops before 8 tonight. I had only one chick when I went out to put up. I caught the little guy, put him on the ramp close to the top. Then when he went in, I snatched him back and set him a little farther down the ramp and gave his rump a tap, then when he got to the top, snatched him back again, and set him almost to the bottom of the ramp and did it again. Let him go to mom after the third trip. I hope tomorrow he gets it faster. His sibling already has. Only took me catching that one two nights.

Fritz the Jerk is still roosting at night with the big ladies. SO, the other CS chicks get a break from him. Pole-boy has learned to keep away from him. He will get up in a spot during the day now where Fritz can't get. LOL.

The pullet is still ill. She is worse tonight. If she is still alive in the morning, I am going to cull her. I was hoping this morning was a good sign when she was out of the coop and on the ground. She made it to the coops people door, roosted on that for a while, then roosted on the door jam for the run in the sun. Her sister would come over and stand guard. I wish I had taken a pic of that. And I do mean stand guard. If anyone even attempted to pick on her, she'd chase them away, then go back to guard duty. Criptoe was the biggest culprit. She wasn't really picking on her, she was trying to get her to get out cuz she had her babies out today.

Criptoe is doing a darn good job being a mama even with the condition of her feet. She will still ninja kick anyone who comes close. She obviously can not hurt them, but she sure does make a point.

Well... yeah... Need to go and swap out clothes. Yep. Mom thinks I am nuts for hanging on the line in the dark, but hey, by the time I wake up in the AM, they'll be dry. LOL. Its not supposed to rain is it?

OK, what is funny looking about the brown sugar? Does it form a thick crust? That's what this one did. Looks normal under, but a thick crust on top.

What do you want different about the apple? Is it a texture thing (Too stiff, too runny etc.) or a spice thing? My spicing isn't over the top, i just do simple (plain cinnamon for me and my apples, allspice if i feel it) but i can help troubleshoot the texture for you. I know the ratios of thickener to apples, but my recipies are too huge for a pie plate! lol. Me and my skillets. lol.
I wouldn't say it's a thick crust, but the top is firm and will get a cracked look if you push on it. Under the top is normal. What I tried to do to make it a bit nicer looking was patterned extra pecans on top. It does look nicer that way, but since only DH likes pecan pie, I only did it the one time.
For the apple, I just want a basic pie that's not too watery, sugary, or bland (but not overly spiced, either). There was one I made when I was younger I liked, but I wasn't into home skills then (my mom just always bought frozen ones) so never thought to keep track of the recipe. The ones I've tried in the past few years have either just failed miserably altogether or have been way too sweet like one I tried with a caramel flavor. That's why DH usually gets the pies he likes instead of me.

YAAAAAY Kim is on her way. Had a wonderful breakfast and chat with Olive yesterday. She REALLY is a wonderful person in the flesh. I totally enjoyed it. This is just awesome - my 2 bestest buds in one weekend. Life can't get better than that.
