Fuzzy's Farm

Fuzzy - it is always better to be honest. If people get offended and don't want your chicks then that is their problem. But always be honest with someone. That way they have a choice. Either buy them and treat them or leave them alone. That's how I always look at things anyway.

What I do in the winter is I leave the coop doors open and I put privacy fence around my runs. That leaves for plenty of ventilation. The privacy fence keeps the wind out but yet it isn't high enough to go all the way up the run fence so henceforth, ventilation. I do have a couple of coops that have no runs to them so what I do with them is I leave the windows open and run a fan in there all winter. Has worked good for me so far.

I love that. seriously. Its perfect.

Winter-

I hate winter. I hate cold. Last year I didnt run a heater in the coop but I did the year before. Because I am a wimp.

I have three windows and an ill-fitted door. I put plexiglass over the windows but leave an inch gap at the top on two of them- but the front one that is not in line with the roosts I just loosely tack up a plastic garbage bag. I put wind breaks around two sides of the coop so there isnt wind, but they have ventilation. I used to leave my pop-hole open but now that I have a munchin who can get 0ut of the chicken yard, I cannot do that.

Incidentally, I forgot to open it today before I left for work. I called my daughter at nine to open it and she told me everyone was chickencussing her out.

What a crap shoot of a day. I didn't get my door fixed like was planned. I should have just went to fuzzy's house.

I did get the floors washed though, and the carpets vacuumed... SO, at least accomplished one thing.

Got the LP coming tomorrow. I can tell you now, I am going to take the longest shower tomorrow too. Not no fast, soap and lather up, rinse off, shower. I need a long stand in the water... LOL

Ah well, we ended up driving around after dropping the deer off. Burger this time, except for the straps. Those are gonna be butterflied! I got to window shop a little, been eyeing the makeup and trying to figure out the best non-makeup makeup, lol. Also the perfect shade of hair color. Gotta have pretty hair if you are going to pretend like you're not wearing makeup! lol

Long riding day here .... 43 eggs 3 incubators and an unexpected but beautiful hen ... Worth the ride and met some awesome chicken people...now to raise MI money to get SAm I Am and show girls and ferretts lol

Thanks everyone for all the winter hints. Like I said before, if it works for you in MI then it will work down here. I'm definitely going to put in windows or plexiglass now. We have a Habitat Restore where you used to be able to buy old windows. Then the contractors moved in and they began catering new stuff to them so the old windows are hard to find but I want all the light possible in the coop. The girls egg production has already began to drop off. I'm not sure what is going on but suddenly we are getting 4 eggs a day instead of 8. I opened the coop door yesterday and there was a 18 inch black snake who dropped down from the top sash where it had crawled onto my arm. I screamed and did a hopping dance and the snake flew off and zoomed under the coop. I don't think he was big enough to eat eggs but he sure gave me a scare. I'm not really fanatical about snakes but when they fall out of the sky on you it's another story.

Fuzzy, it was the Rustic pie recipe. I added some more cinnamon because I love it but the rest was the same. SOOO good!

Nova, I hope you get your car door fixed soon. That's just scary thinking about you driving around with half your car open...

Piper, finish that paper and your assignments. Are you headed for college? Okay, that was both the mother and the teacher in me popping out at the same time...

College is still a few years away....I'm almost done with my paper, I just need to edit a bit, and add some more length too. I'm almost at the 1200 words, and the minimum is only 600, but it feels kinda short still. For some reason the thing-a-majig that let's me turn in assignments isn't working, and my teacher's gone till Thursday, so I have to wait until then to turn everything in......I will get it done though!!! Eventually....
