Fuzzy's Farm

Yeah, they take a long time to grow into their feathers. They start mostly orange, then get some black, then more black and white as they age.

Oh cool, a winery!

it was a neat tour .... and i like most of their wines lol i think that is what i am asking for f or christmas...50 dollars worth of wine !!!

Haha cool!

Time to get to work on a chicken harness.....but it's such a beautiful day outside *sigh*

I want to go to bed. LOL.

Hi everyone. Kim, glad y'all had a good time. Robin, glad you got to have a good time too.

The weather is supposed to get seriously windy tomorrow. Guess I best do my chores early in the day. I wanted to get the plastic up today on the south facing wall, but I didn't make it that far. I guess it is still light enough out, I could do it... i'd have about 10 mintues.. .hmmm.. Yeah right. By the time I got the staples and plastic out, it'll be dark. LOL. Morning it is. Just putting up the one wall really cut the wind. There is also a crap load of leaves plastered to the roof in the summer sun coop, soon to be a traditional coop all the way around... and it is acting like an insulator. Won't last long though... The wind will pick up, and they'll be blown off.

My SLW is still hanging in there, but I think I am going to have to give and put her down in the morning. As much as she's alert, her tummy has taken a turn for the worse today. It is nearly dragging on the ground. I discovered that today when I got home from work... I will dig a hole in the morning and do the deed. I hate doing the deed..

Looks like I better go and feed the people here. No one can cook but me... even though its just taco meat. I bought everythign pre-cut so there'd be no reason for them to not do it, but nope, I get home, and the first thing I get asked is, "Whats for dinner, you making tacos, cuz we're hungry." I looked at them stupidly, and came here to say hi. Guess ya'll see where my priority lies right now huh.

Hi Everyone,

Today we found two of the Poof Heads with their head feathers picked almost entirely off, and blood everywhere. Bob is chasing them, pecking them, and ripping their head feathers out. We put Bob in the pen the Poofs were in for now, but any thoughts on how to help the Poof Head's heal, and maybe what to do to win Bob over (Or if it's even possible to win him over?)

Here's some pics of the damage:

And the culprit:

The usual suspect. :p

It's just the two black and whites that are getting nailed. Ms. Bagawk and Alice are fine. Any thoughts on what to do?

I have that food prob here too ... but i dont mind cooking most nights... luckily tonight i made a roast and the fixins in the crock pot before we left for the winery so while out and about i picked up some rolls .. heated them and viola supper is done ... with the bread shortage anbd the storm coming i decide to try baking some bread tonight just in case ... MIL and FIL left to go to walmart to see what they could find in the way of food stuffs i think ... got two loaves worth of dough rising and if they turn out ok ill make two more ... if they dont turn out ok ill make 2 more with a different recipe lol

Well, I had to let Robin go back home- even though we would love to keep her here. She and the d'uccles are on their way now.

It sure was great to have her over and she even fed us and the chickens! I am so lucky to have such a great friend.

I forgot to make sure that Kayla didnt hide in Robins car before she drove away.
Ummm Kim..........are you missing a child ??? LOL.. I had a wonderful time. I was the lucky one Kim. I love love love your backyard and the way you have it set up. You have some very lucky animals there. The chickens are so happy, you can tell. All your animals are VERY well fed and VERY well taken care of. I beg anybody to say any different. Fat parrot, which by the way is the coolest, overly fat dogs and cats. Even the ferret is huge. It must take your whole paycheck to feed them. No wonder you have to work so much LOL. Even the turtle was huge. And tell Dink, next time I come I am stealing his cat hahaha. Thank you Kim.

I hate to say it D. , but i'd do him in. :( I will tolerate being spurred, that means at least that the roo is protecting even if it's from the wrong thing............terrorizing females, no reason. :(
Unless you just got him, and the girls won't submit, then i might give him a break and keep him penned separate until he cooled his jets a little. Really though, i haven't had but one roo who was mean to girls, and though i worked with him his meanness just went to me too and i had to have him put down anyway. (The favorolle roo, which should have been a nice boy since that's supposed to be a nice breed) Even my current roo, who was bought and put straight into the girl's pen wasn't mean, he even fed them the treats i gave him, wouldn't eat his portion until they were done.

For the poor girls, treats and blue-cote to keep the others from picking on them. Watch for pecking, if he does it too hard on their heads they can be brain damaged or risk spraining their necks!

I was so excited today, my procelain d'uccle roo crowed for me today!
celebrate.gif

I have been egging him on, and he's been shooting me quizzical looks, but nada. Today i came into the coop after putting the little ones in to eat, and he stood up real proud and did his best! (I had to smile and say what a good job it was, he was so proud but inside i was giggling) Shhh! He must have felt secure since it was just him, his foster mom and sis, and the EE babies.

( I make a habit of letting the littlest to biggest groups of birds in staggered groups in for evening feeding. Not-so-little chicks, then when they quit eating the procelain d'uccle trio, then the 2 girl EE's, then the roos. That way everyone gets a full belly without too much bickering in the evening! )

I have been slowly doing intros between the chicks and the other birds for the last couple of weeks, going decent but Cookie and Blue are being stinkers about it. Cookie is doing it out of jealousy, Blue idk with him. He don't have any of the protective instincts that i was hoping for. :( The d'uccles are starting to accept them, since they are close in size now. Princess (my auction hen) is so tiny and miserable with this molt that she could care less, Henry is another wild card. He's been acting a bit wild lately, but unless they are running he leaves them alone. Anything runs he goes after it, which is a problem since Blue chases everything right now. Huge teenager roo.
