Fuzzy's Farm

Well, what a week. Temps are crazy. Got the dryer working. I put the new dryer cord on. I feel pretty darn handy. Yup... Only, kept blowing the curcuit. My friend Joe came yesterday with his wife and their grandkid, and he changed out the fuse from a 15 to a 30. I am in business! Clothes are clean and dry and SOFT! I think though, that I will probably hang clothes in the spring-fall months next year... Just not the towels. LOL.

About my little bantam boy... I think there may be something wrong with him. I do not think his legs are right. Kinda like a midget. Not just bantam sized either... BEYOND that. He is smaller than my bantam girls. I was watching him walk today, and if you have ever seen a little silkie walking, you see they do kinda walk like they've got a lot going on between the legs. Well, this guys belly, when you put your hand under him, is barely off the ground, his legs are really that short. He has so much fluff, that it almost looks like he's a chicken version of one of those walking shag carpet dogs. He also seems to have a bit of tremor, but he may have gotten a bit hurt today... Jace let him out and didn't tell me, no blood, but he is missing feathers from his head... I don't think he'll be going into the big coop and run at... He seems much smaller than my jerk Fritz... Going to get a pic and upload it.

Mom, you're in my thoughts and prayers. Sounds like you need them more than ever right now.

Robin... about Fibber and Molly... When would you like them?

Big girls pants... hhehehehe

The Rooster's Fate

The two barred rock crossbred roosters are just days away from death, now. They are constantly fighting, and we don't have the money nor the resources, nor the time to build separate pens for each of them. I fear the worst will have to be done. They will have to die.

I really try to keep them apart as much as possible, watching them constantly, but, really, I cannot change them. They are starting to challenge us, now. Nothing can be done about their intense aggression. They may have to die here in the next day or two.

Well Kiddo... this is the yuckies of chicken stewardship. Ya eat the aggressive ones. Keep the good ones. If ya can't do it, then you only keep girls, no roos, and just get more girls when you need to replace/replenish. It can be very sucky, but if they are starting to attack you when you are doing your chores, then you need to do it... Or find them new homes, or find someone who wants a meal... I haven't had that problem yet, but I also take the cockerels I do not want to keep for breeding to the butcher. They serve a purpose then. I feed them till they are good and ready to feed me. They don't really get to the fighting age.

To give you a perspective at how small this bantam is...

Next to the pink skinned silkie...

I do think that there is something wrong with the legs. I was watching him walk, he will walk backwards, wings flapping... He will go forward, and it looks like he is hobbling... I am picking up baby vits tomorrow after I get some money, and going to get him started on that with selenium. He is back in his little 2x2 coop area. But I do think he is a special needs chicken...

He is very very timid too. SO, that's ok. I think Jace will be able to use him for cloverbud. They don't really judge little kids. But they do give pointers etc. I'll also work on the the buff and blue silkie hen so she'll be able to be shown too. She's a pretty little thing.

Idk, that was how small my little rose was? Just about the size of a pancake when she fluffed and sat.

Since sarah had bought them from a breeder and they are supposed to be show quality, is it possible the little one has never been outside a cage to develop good leg muscles? Check the foot feathers, make sure there isn't an infected follicle or something.

Remember my first porcelain chick that i rescued from TSC's trash bin, the one who couldn't walk and didn't make the night? I had researched that and found that it was either genetic, or that it was a severe deficiency of something.......... Perhaps this one does need the extra vitamins? I will look and see if i can find which one it was that caused the backwards walking........ But being this old, it is also possible the breeder had already treated, and this is the best it got.............
