Fuzzy's Farm

LOL, see, I'd love to just go to the Chinese Buffet. But there is always a crush of people that is... Well, I get irratated, and I don't enjoy it, cuz I am worried out my kids that whole time, some one not paying attention, knocking them down...SO. yeah.. We con't have a country buffet here anymore... SO much died when the grandville mall opened... Bummer.

Did you get done what you needed?

Very quiet weekend...

How are you doing there Robin? Ready for next week? Just read the school newsletter, looks like Jace only has school Monday and Tuesday next week. Oh. Joy. LOL. I am sad, I really enjoy him going to school all day. And I am not ashamed to admit it!

heate roosts would make spoiled chickens wouldnt it ? or just nice warm ones ... mine prob wouldnt used them if i could afford them and they were available .. i have all around weird chickens

heated roosts?? I was just reading about heated perches for parrots and such... wonder if there is a heated roost option... hmmmm...
I posted some such idea on the toheat/not to heat thread that was running on the main page for a while; no one answered! I had thought of running that heat tape you use on trailer pipes to keep the water from freezing...........run a pipe with the tape wrapped on it through a bigger pvc pipe. Coat the pvc in glue and roll in sand, (that's similar to what they make cage bird sand perches out of)...................Use the end caps in a way that could come off if needed, (Never know if you will need to replace the heat tape or check the fuse in it) put a screw or notch in it to keep the perch from rolling, mount, and run the cord up the wall with some of that stripping that you put over cords to keep from tripping on them (to keep the birds from pecking.............)

????? Wouldn't be heat per se but it would take the chill off? Been stewing on this design for 2 winters now. I like the fact that it would provide just a touch of comfort but would not be life altering if the power went out. ?

See, that's what I was thinking, wouldn't cause a prob if power was out, but with the feather footed birds whose feet might get snowy... would warm and dry.... it is a thought that very few people have an opinion or answer on other than, well the birds sit on their feet, so, whats the point. Um... nice little warm spot at night even if the temps drop in the negatives, with out causing a bunch of moisture to build in the coop, like a full out heater would...hmmm... Something to think on I guess...

I'm not sure if my description was good, but what i see in my head is very cheap and do-able! I even have short lengths of the black pvc pipe from my camper tear-out!
the pipe tape however would be anywhere from $30-$50 probably. Don't run much (it says) for electricity, and by double insulating it should run even less!

(You are welcome to my short lengths, i need a long one :( ) I also have a book for you if you don't own it already! I cleaned my bookshelf and i have "backyard farming by terry bridge" Nice new book, but i don't own land so i can't do much of it. (It has a brief bit about bees too!)

Oh, I'd be more than happy to read it.

I would think, that as long as it is clean able that'd be good. I was thinking too, maybe just put it over the wood roosts. It can't get that hot where I'd have to worry about a fire, you'd not think... BUT maybe a round would be better with some glue and sand like you suggest. Hmmm.... I wonder if I were to fill a section of down spout with sand... or run a 2x2 thru the inside, screw it in place, then wrap the downspout with the heat tape, so it is a square instead of a round... down spout is pretty cheap, easy to cut... wouldn't have to worry about the wood heating overly then either...

Well, I better get my hiney into bed. Work comes soon. Looks like a smallish paper tonight, so that's good. Thursday will be huge thanks to black friday... yuck...
