Okay, so this week I was supposed to receive two shipments of eggs from BYCers, one shipment of chicks from Meyer, and one shipment of ducklings from Metzer (via another BYCer). Oh, and I had a hatch of home-grown Marans and OEs.
SHipment of chicks came yesterday. All seemed *reasonably* okay, but, as seems to be par for the course for meaties that I get from Meyer, 4 died today and 3 more are in the process of dying. THis is my second shipment from them, and I have lost quite a few in the intial days of both shipments. I have one more coming in May...then I may give up on meaties altogether. The EEs in the same order are doing just fine.
Shipment of ducklings was supposed to come yesterday. Haven't heard from the BYCer who was having the joint shipment come to her house - are they there? Are they okay?
And of the two shipments of eggs that were supposed to go out on Monday - one didn't ship until yesterday (just checked the tracking!) and the tracking number for hte other one isn't working.
Then, of my personal eggs that were hatching, my very first home-bred Marans chick didn't come out right - not sure if it is genetic or just a fluke - he has a huge, bare belly and his feet don't work. They weren't curled in the shell - they were flat against the inside of the egg. He's two days old...I'm thinking I have to cull him tonight.
WHy do my meaties keep dying? And where are my ducklings and two shipments of eggs? And my poor baby Marans!
