I just hatched gambel quail...theyre in the brooder..

Should i encourage eating and drinking right away? How long

For the first day, they shouldn't be needing any food. From there onwards...yes.

Crush some game feed in a blender to make it easier to eat for the little ones. Spread some around the feeding area. As for water, dip their beaks in the water so they learn where to drink from and remember that the drinker should not be deep enough for them to drown in.

As soon as you put them in the brooder. I always do it as the very first thing, from the hatcher to,the brooder.

Well it all went to crap guys...hatched 5 outta 18 eggs...in the infamous LG incubator...the rest were yokes ...

Then there was one quail who killed two then pecked all the eyes out of the other 3...im really want to raise quail...but these gambel are stressing the hell out of me...now i have 3 quail and im not a happy camper

Now im debating on even messing with quail ever again..my whole family is stressed over losing these little birds...i hate the little giant by the way ( sorry but i did everything right and the temps were never an issue...but its not plug and play by ANY STRETCH!!

Wow Bad Luck.
If the eggs were not developed its not the bator's fault. Never heard of Gambles doing what you described. Definitely don't give up they are great birds to have around with. Very nice call!

Babies killing each other in the brooder is usually a sign that they are over heating or too cramped in together. What was/is your brooder temp? Describe your brooder set up?

Brooder was the biggest plastic tote you can buy at wallyworld...temp was 94-99 ...4ft long by two foot deep
