Gambels quail

Hello Fat Daddy I live in Illinois and i am looking for Gambel Quails I have a Adult female but no Male would you have any info on where I can find one in Illinois thanks

I would be VERY careful about raising gambels quail in arizona. They're technically illegal without a license. Mostly because they are native.

http://www.animallaw.info/administrative/adusazadcR12_4_401_430.htm

"These Arizona regulations define “captive live wildlife” as live wildlife that is held in captivity, physically restrained, confined, impaired, or deterred to prevent it from escaping to the wild or moving freely in the wild. The regulations provides that no individual shall import or export any live wildlife into or out of the state. An individual may take wildlife from the wild alive under a valid Arizona hunting or fishing license only if there is a Commission Order that prescribes a live bag and possession limit for that wildlife and the individual possesses the appropriate license. However, no person may possess restricted live wildlife without a valid permit. "

So, long story short. You can find them or find food for them because they are illegal.

AZ Game & Fish will sell you a Hobby Permit for five bucks a year to raise and keep as many gambels as you wish. Selling them is a different matter, that requires a Game Breeders permit, which is a little more expensive.

I have a question, I hatched and raised some Gambels, I have 4 female and 5 male I am unsure in captivity if more than one male is actually needed, anyone know?

X2

You cannot keep more than one female with one male. Pairs only during breeding season, spring thru fall. You can mix the whole lot during fall thru spring.

Can I mix my Valleys' too? I have 3 males and one female. ( need eggs to hatch out some more girls) Last time I mixed, the dominant male beat the pee-wadding out of the other one. Barely pulled him thru...

Yes, you can mix all your Valleys as well. Just watch them for a few days to make sure they all get along. Generally this time of year, since the breeding season is over, the aggression should be minimal.

I've been offered a trio of Gambels. I have never kept them before. They are two years old. Can anyone tell me how old the hens will be when they stop laying?

Interesting question, but I don't know. Perhaps you might be able to tell us. I've not yet had a new world quail that got to the point where it was too old to lay eggs. But I do know that your quail will continue to lay for many more years.
