"gambling" with fate to defend my eggs' life (he/she make it!!!!)

As I went through the basement on my way to work this morning, I heard a cheep as I turned on the light. I looked at the guinea pig in surprise, then realized it was coming from the incubator. I have a mutt chick already! It was very tired, and there was a pip on another egg. So I left them alone and went on to work.

I'm glad now that I switched them when I did. The broody would've stopped setting if I hadn't, and I need her to set for 1 more week.

So I guess I set up a brooder box when I get home.

congratulation wegotchickens, they must be very cute.

Thanks, Mulia! I was already happy about this but,
I just got a phone call that I have 5 mutt chicks hatched out!!
All 5 of the broody mom's eggs hatched.

I will get them out and tidy the bator a little, then put the ones due 10/22 back in.

As soon as I see my new fluffies I will get a picture posted, and also one of the parent chickens...

Broody will wait until 10/24 to see her chicks. She won't mind, since she has plenty of eggs under her.

Sorry Mulia!
After the 5 mutts hatched I got really sick with a sinus infection. And then relatives came visiting from out of town. They were here to comfort me since last weekend was the 2-month anniversary of losing my oldest daughter. But it's time to catch up and work on moving forward again, as best I can. My younger daughter needs a strong mom!!

Here are the mutt chicks, taken on 10/16 when they hatched and weren't even dry yet. I will get a more recent photo soon. They are living with the broody hen and she loves them

And here are my blue babies which hatched 10/21. I was at home when they hatched, due to being sick, so I got to cuddle with them all day.

2 of them had a curled toe, maybe due to the power outage while they were incubating. One has since straightened out but not the other chick's toe. Since it may be a genetic flaw I won't keep them for future breeding. I have already found a home for them with a nice lady. She has only 1 chick that hatched for her and it is lonely. So it will have 2 blue babies to grow up with!

You have absolutely darling chicks. I love the blue color. I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your daughter. She will always be apart of your life, and I am sure you will miss her forever. I know that I still miss my little girl even 23 years later. Having another child to raise is a blessing, because it forces you to keep moving and focusing your love and attention on the living child or children. With prayers and love. From another mom with a missing hole in her heart.

it's good to know everything's alright and the babies doing well with you.

hope your sinus infection cured ASAP so your activities won't be disturbed by it.

wew, 10/16 they must be very big now.
wish i can see their newest pics.

i wonder if you can send me at least two of those blue babies, they will be a rare *species* here

i also will post my 8 beauty chickens soon, they're really big now but are not as big as mature chick since they haven't event reach 2 months old, they're now on my backyard joining with a roo and a black hen (US called it sumatra/java, quite strange to hear it for me

). wait a minute, they're not really joined the flock, just in same coop, divided by chicken wire and now i've doubled the size of my coop by building a run/coop (i confused about the naming, coop/run is mine) but fully covered to prevent any predator. but no bulb is attached to the coop, they're tough guys and girls.

i'll soon get the pics and share it.

take care.

I'm happy to say that I am finally starting to feel better, and get some sleep, too.
Justbugged, I am sorry to hear of any other parent who has lost a child. It's good that have my youngest and I do keep moving forward for her sake. But the pain is still very raw for us all.

So we push ourselves into new routines, and play with baby birds.

Here are the new pictures, Mulia!
The first 4 are to show color patterns and the cute little tufts on their heads from their Polish chicken daddy.

The next are group shots. Remember, Mama Hen is a banty, so when it looks as if her babes are as big as she is it's because they are from standard size birds.

Wegotchickens, what darling little chicks. I do wonder what those little tufts on top of their heads will look like when they mature. It makes me want to hatch some eggs (no incubator yet) from my two Polish roosters. I got two straight run Polish chicks and gave them to my grandchildren. Hayden (2 years old) named his Too toot (which was his word for chicken at the time). My granddaughter has also named hers. Sooooo, I am stuck with two Polish roosters. Seeing your chicks gives me hope that we could at least get some cute chicks out of the deal.
