I think Junkmanme and Ingred are right. My chickens are not heavy when I pick them up, but they have lots of soft feathers. Some of my black chickens are Jersey Giants, bread as a "dual purpose" bird. That means they are raised for egg production and eating. Mine don't have to worry, I won't eat them.

As for the coop remodel, I have been dividing the large space into several smaller spaces so I can have breeding pens. I still have a lot of work to do up there, but the rain has me stopped. Also, we are still working on the house. I hope to have my part done by the end of this week.

When I divided my coop I caused a lighting problem. The smaller area I walled off needs a window so I am looking for someone who has a window they don't want any more. Lots of people have them to give away, but mine has to be small and there are not so many of those. Hopefull I will find one this week so I can get my chickens more light.

My rat chewed another hole in the floor of my little coop. I put poison under there, but aparently he likes chicken food better.

I don't know if you have seen this photo of mine yet, but here it is. This is thier roost wall with two Light Brahmas facing away from me with another chicken in the middle looking at me. Have you ever seen such fluffy chicken butts in your life? Brahma chickens also have feathers on their legs and feet. This is one of my favorite chicken pictures.

game fowl, so they possess hard feather, not soft, well, i have take a view to my chicken after reading this and i found that they really possess soft feather on their outer feather. but i'm not sure, i'm really confuse about this, well, i wish to have a fat meat not fat feather at all

and my bird won't complaint a 40 deg celcius temp at all, i hope they didn't ask me to put an air conditioner inside the coop just because they feel it's hot now

i can't afford that since i even only use fan to *fight* this hot temp.

don't mention it, i'm the only to thanks many since i learned so many think from BYCer that generally live in US,canada and UK. well, i realized the difference of language that really make me need to think everytime i want to type and the differences of breed so that make me so jealous

to breed in US/UK/canada.

they're strong chicken, i've so many bad experiences when deal with them.

thank you for letting me know the ancestor (jungle fowl) and some game fowl that also possess athletic build, well, perhaps i should give thanks since i possess athletic strong chicken that fat in meat not only the feather

nice to know you and i hope the rule can be *edit* so you can own your own flock at yard...... or how about outlawing??

it's really complicated, how can a country forbid it citizen of possessing an egg machine or an alarm at their backyard?

you're lucky (perhaps all people in US) since you're able to get free thing like window,wood,etc. no one will give me even a piece of window for free here.

i hope you've solved that problem by now.

i'm also stressed about rat, i'm frustrating, i afraid the rat will try to eat any egg left in coop if i forget to take it or if the girls laid after i went to school.

honestly, never in my country but i've seen some in BYC. brahma? i think that's india chicken? well, they have so many feather/fluff, can we gather all of that soft feather/fluff when they're molting to make a pillow?

here, my whole view of barricade i put to block the dog to intrude my chicken coop.

you can the dog keep watching me when i took the pic.

my father built that semi permanent divider between backyard with *houseyard* the dog destroy it and i build a barricade to make sure no more chicks killed but he still be able to pass it by digging the ground and climbing the barricade at the right side where the wall is shorter.

everytime he intruding the barricade i learn from where he pass it and i put more obstruction to make he won't be able to intrude from there again. i do hope he won't be able to intruding it again.

Thanks for all the great pictures! I never get tired of looking at pictures. Is that black and white one the chicken you called "beauty" when it was young? It turned out to be a roo? Maybe he will be the father of another beauty for you, this time a pullet. Your chickens look very healthy. You should be proud of the way you take such good care of them.

Once I had a cow that jumped my fence. I tried everything I could think of to keep that cow in the pasture. The dog I had then knew how to help me get the cow in, and he was very good at it. I could never have caught that cow by myself. Every day we would have to go to the neighbors to get the cow. Finally I had a great idea. It was the only idea that worked and the cow never jumped that fence again. We ate it!

I am not suggesting that fate for your dog. Your fence just reminded me of that old cow and how I tried everything to keep it in my yard.

i think if we can build it ourselves not buy it then it will be cheaper. i don't think to eat the dog, i still need him as a night guard here, many thief here

. the electric fence can be used both to kill rat and to shock the dog. how about it? i want to learn to build it.

Hi Mulia,

It was picture # 1 and 2. I thought the black and white one looked like one of the chicks you posted a picture of as a baby. Is that your old mean roo?

Be careful if you try to build an electric fence. The electricity in a fence is not as strong as in the house. Be safe about it. If it is strong enough to kill a rat, isn't that a lot of electricity for a fence? I don't know how they work so I cannot give you any advice except, be safe. I do think it might keep the dog out of your chickens. Maybe someone here on BYC will have some advice for you.

Next week we are supposed to have a few days without rain so maybe I can get my fence up then. I am almost done with my work on the house. My work platform has been very stable.

Yesterday I didn't get anything done because it was an American holiday (Thanksgiving). On Thanksgiving we celebrate a good harvest by gathering with friends and relatives and haveing a big meal. My 4 daughters were there with many of my grandchildren and great grandchildren. I brought my 13 year old grandson home with me for a couple of days. He gathered eggs with me this morning and helped feed the chickens. He is a good boy and it is nice to have him visit.

yes, that's my old mean roo, he's now better in behavior after being placed in a cage only for him, perhaps stress make him better in behavior.

well, i just know that arabic chicken suppose to be a smaller size body chicken, that mean perhaps my arabic will much smaller than my village one, perhaps like bantam, arabic is good layer according to my friend who own a farm. seems that my arabic will always get bit and peck by my village due to their small size.

yes, i still can't find a way to build electric fence, i hope with less cost i can still build a safe one.

are you going to give it cement on the ground to make it strong? it's better use cement than only bury it into ground.

that's good to have a nice grandson, well, thanksgiving, i always get a *describe* of thanksgiving is a celebration with roasted turkey? i want to try eat roasted turkey

Hi Mulia; I have been following this thread from nearly the beginning. My very large dog killed 6 of my Polish Crested chicks many years ago.

I spanked him and yelled at him a long time.

Then I tied him up to fence all day with one of the dead chickens tied around his neck.

He never looked at another chicken, The dog is now almost 12 years old and he is very good with my chickens.

You will have to tie the dead chicken tight enough so the dog can't try to eat it. It will start to stink very soon because it is so hot where you are.

This might be really mean, but it might teach the dog to not attack the chicken ever again.

I hope this helps, but you can ignore, and I will be good. My dog is a Komondor dog. The breed is from the country Hungary. It may take longer with your dog. I don't know what breed of dog he is. Wishing you very well Christina

ups, i hope not so boring to hear me ranting here, i've placed 4 eggs under my broody hen 2 days ago since she's really hard-headed hen, i do know that egg only have 10% fertility rate since i bought it from shop. i'm going to see it 3 days later, if no vein visible i'll try to bet with my village chicken eggs i'll put 5 village chicken eggs in case the 4 european chicken eggs are infertile.

so the key is if the 4 *european chicken* eggs are infertile, i'll switch it with 5 village chickens eggs, although i know both of the eggs kind possess low hatchbility since my roo didn't do his job well.

yes, i've read this in predator section if i'm not wrong.

thank you, i really appreciated your suggestion but i think that's still not needed for now but i'll consider it later if he kill again.

well, heather from england said that my dog (perhaps) jack russel terrier, but i think he is jack rusting terrified.

i've burned so many calories by hitting him when i caught him destroying my coop and again tried to kill my chicken, can be considered as sport.
