Game Cams: Neat, sure; but necessary? i wonder (update)

That is incredible...you know, I think some cops (I work with them alot, so I have no problem saying this) let it go to their heads and think they are above the law and everything else...humans are such corruptable creatures

BUT, that right there is a really really good reason to have a game cam (or any other sort of surveilence cam)...

Seems to be a total lack of common courtesy and common sense these days! He was probably used to going through there before you moved in. Those people don't even consider that the new owners may not approve of or allow it. He should've asked permission, period. Then again, he sounds like the kind of person, that if you had denied him access, he would've done it any way! I had that problem with deer hunters here. They had always been allowed access to the property below me to hunt. Problem was, they had to come right down my driveway, and right past my house to do it, and left the trucks in the yard! When I moved in, in July, no one had told me about it, or else I would've posted signs. Then, one morning in Nov., at approximately 5am, I have three trucks in my yard, and 6 men carrying guns!

Needless to say I freaked out, and fired off a 12 ga. blast in the air! They all froze, and I asked them what they were doing in my yard?? They explained to me how it had always been this way, and I explained to them it was NOT that way any more. Luckily for me, they weren't a bunch of jerks, and they agreed to my wishes. Looking back now, if they had been jerks, it could've ended very differently! I let them go on their hunt that day, with their trucks parked in my yard, but NO MORE. They never did come back, and my peace resumed...thankfully.

I got my gam cam to see what was killing my ducks. I never did find out since I put a top on the pen but I did catch my daughters dog going with a duck in her mouth. Didn't kill it thankfully but she did get a few chickens. Recently I thought one of my dogs were stealing goose eggs. Even though my daughters dog was pictured looking in the coop the culprit was really a fox. Still working on that situation. For me, yes, I'm glad I have one to protect my flock. What's nice is I can move anywhere or any time I want. I have an infraread since I didn't want it to flash at night. I was afraid is it flashed the gig would be up.

We don't really need one. We just want one. I cant justify spending the 90 bucks on one since we arn't hunters. However, there is this site called www.swagbucks.com and Ive been using that and right now I have $20 in amazon.com gift cards toward the purchase of the game cam. That is how we are going to get one. Once I have the 90 bucks and it should be sometime in the next few months I will get the camera. You use swagbucks search engine, take surveys, play games ect on their site and you are rewarded so many swagbucks for everything you do. Once you get 450 swagbucks you can turn them in for $5 amazon.com gift card. Pretty cool thing. We got a carpet cleaner totally free just by me using that site. Amazon does have the D-55 for $89.

hey carrie, good to see you back. you said 'bye everyone, i'm out': didn't think that would last.

even if you gotta take some time off of birds--to give yourself a rest or to have predators stop coming--you should try not to dump em for good. at any rate, good to have you back.

and i see you have an updated picture of yourself for the avatar. it could be entitled, "Carrie, after her delightful chicken season 2011."

If they are looking straight at the camera yes they will see it flash.

The new trail cameras are using a black flash that is invisable. I don't know if that claim is correct.

they are not really necessary I trap and dispose of pests all the time you merely read the track and let the critters show you what to change to catch them

now back to business:

cmv, you must tell us about your game cams, given that you use it/them so much.

you must have--or have had--good ones.

could you tell us about what you have, and any other info. you might think helpful, if poss.??

I have one, its a little additive to see whats on it! Mine takes D - battreies 6 of them so i bought rechargable ones, because if you aim it at your coop, yep tons of you, your dogs, etc. But i have been amazed at the critters, i know living on 23 wooded acers, there is other animals but in the 3 years here i have rarely see them, but my game came has caught all kinds of critters! Just love mine!

I picked one up on a whim just to see what is out and about after dark. I was amazed at the number of raccoons in the area. Lately though it's been all quiet.
