I asked if I could show the Ayam Cemani's next year for 4h, and was told they counted as game birds and since the cock fighting is so bad here, they won't let us show them.

Someone forgot to tell my AC roosters they're supposed to be fighting.

Sheesh!! That's pretty sad they make a blanket judgement like that. They obviously aren't familiar with the breed.

To them, anything that's not a standard breed, like a cochin, polish, or something along those lines, they won't even consider - as it is, the clovers can show whatever they want this year, but they don't technically even have show birds right now. I have to get together with the coordinator in march to try to set something up. I was thinking of offering to hatch the ayam cemani's, because of the breed standards would be easy to enforce for showing.

Someone here used a couple of my OEGBs in a 4H show. They were hens though, so maybe just cocks aren't allowed? Or maybe that's a state by state decision?

It's up to the local people who run each 4h chapter.

They almost didn't even have a show chicken thing this year, the person running it, is doing it like the county fair, following specific rules, i.e. meat birds, everyone has to order 25 birds. etc.

Which makes it hard for people to participate who live in the city and are only allowed 4 hens and no roo's.

I was able to talk them into letting my daughter show whatever bird she wanted, since she's a clover - but we won't be doing chicken 4h, if they only do meat birds and we can't show other birds next year. We'll go to goats.
