I individually bubble wrap each egg, burrito style, so each egg is totally enclosed.  I pack up to 20 eggs in the small 7x7x5 USPS priority box, adding as much additional bubble wrap as needed so there is absolutely no room for those eggs to shift around inside the box.  This box goes inside a larger 12x12x8 USPS priority box that is lined with egg cartons - currently an egg flat on the bottom, closed egg cartons on opposite sides, and half an egg carton on the other two opposite sides.  The egg cartons keep the inner box perfectly centered and act as a cushion absorbing the energy and abuse and damage of shipping.  I sometimes substitute air pillows for the half cartons to reduce weight.

"Sweating" should not be a problem if eggs are at room temperature when wrapped.  Once eggs are packed, they are very well insulated.  And they still wouldn't sweat because they're not exposed to humid air during the temperature change.  IMO I don't think an egg will expire enough moisture through the eggshell during transit to cause "sweating".  I have in the past rolled each egg in a paper towel strip cut to fit, but that was more for absorption in case of breakage than sweating.  I have received no indication that adding the paper towels had an effect on the eggs either good or bad.

Since we are talking about shipping, i have a bad one for ya, i ordered some expensive serama eggs (50$ including shipping) and when i got them, it was a re used flat rate box, taped shut with blue and purple cheatah print duct tape. When i opened it up, i found a LOOSE egg carton, flopping around in the box. Opened the carton and dound not an ounce in any padding, other than half a paper towel pet egg, was used. I was mad! And not a 20$ shiping fee...

I ship similar to CJ.

I individually wrap each egg in bubble wrap burrito style but I tape the ends over so the egg is completely enclosed. I put them into the 7x7x5 priority box and add shredded paper or bubble wrap to hold them tight. If there are very few eggs shipping, I will wrap a piece of scotch tape to hold the eggs together in packs of 4 for stability while being jostled around in shipping.

I put that box into a larger box, either 12x12x8 or the regional rate c boxes(no longer available but I have about 40 of them from last year left over). The regional rate c boxes are 15x12x12 if I remember correctly. I secure the small box inside the bigger box by packing with shavings. This insulted the eggs in extreme heat and cold and they will settle in enough to hold the inner box tightly. I also have used egg carton to help hold the small box tightly if the shavings don't seem to be cutting it.

I've HEARD of horror stories like that.  I've haven't gotten any quite that bad.  Did you get your money back?

Aside from poor packing, my worst was a box that was shipped FedEx overnight, shipped in the evening, received the following morning, with smelly rotten eggs in it.  The seller said FedEx must have left the box sitting in the sun.

When I've shipped eggs (within the state of course...) I do the double box method with shredded paper between the two boxes. On the inside of the smaller box, I line the entire inside with foam padding and wrap every egg burrito style (to borrow cj's phrase) in bubble wrap. They're placed in and made to be snug with extra bubble wrap if need be. No bad reports yet

I prefer to double box mine as well, best way to go IMO... but sometimes I do mine in singles having to weigh the costs of shipping and packing enough eggs securely for best odds...

I either burrito bubble wrap or use pipe insulation sections, that stuff works great too... dry shavings are my preferrred in between the eggs, under and over to keep them cushioned and snug, the trick is sifting them in enough that they won't settle and end up loose or putting in too much that it puts too much pressure on the eggs... for in between the boxes, I've used shredded paper, packing peanuts, the small flat rate boxes closed up and empty or more shavings... depends on what I have and weight considerations there...

The 2 things I don't like is crumpled paper and the air pillows... crumpled paper can flatten during shipping leaving space for shifting around and the air pillows can expand or deflate depending on altitude changes during shipping, either squishing what's inside or leaving void space as well... JMO...

Question:

I'm currently 4 days in [starting tonight at 5pm] to incubating serama eggs. My first attempt at it I had 2 out of 4 fertile eggs make it to lockdown and died shortly after. I eggsietopsied them. 1 never piped and he other had the tip of its beak through the internal membrane just barely. They were both positioned correctly. They air cells were very large. The eggs were shipped so I had them up in cartons through the incubation process. I ran the humidity around 45% and upped it to 65% during lockdown. Since I've never incubated bantam I was alarmed through the whole process at the large air cells. So, the question I have is, does it only seem like air cells are very large compared to the eggs because their so small? MY hygrometer has been calibrated so I now it's accurate and the chicks weren't 'shrink wraped' when I eggsietopsied them at day 24. What should I do differently this hatch? They're in egg cartons again as they're shipped. I have the humidity at 55%. My bator is a forced air as well.
