I recently accepted three turkey eggs from someone since I had a broody hen sitting on no eggs. After the chicks hatched this person called me and started talking about treating gapeworm, which my flock has never had (that or any other disease!) Now, three days later, I have a hen with the symptoms of gapeworm! Is it possible that the unhatched eggs or newly hatched chicks introduced this parasite into my flock? Thanks for any feedback.

To the best of my knowledge gapeworm eggs must go through a stage in an intermediary host before they become infective. Because there is no direct contact infection I doubt that the eggs have infected your flock.

Thanks so much! The new chicks are fine and the hen that was in distress yesterday is quite a bit improved this morning. Hope it was just something stuck in her throat.
