Garden in the Desert Hatch-Along

25 - Agave (C.E Backstrom) is hard to determine. The dark shape is a different shape than the others. No peeping yet.
I candled Agave again, and then saw fluid inside the membrane. Any time I've seen that it has meant that the chick died at least a few days before. Did an eggtopsy, and I was right. I estimate it died just a bit before lockdown. Rest in peace, Agave. :hugs

I'm curious about this, as I didn't have any that internally pipped.
Did yours not pierce the air sac before externally pipping? I know that can happen. These eggs internally pipped into the air sac which allowed them to breathe. That's when they started peeping and chirping. My last batch peeped softly a few times after internally pipping, but nothing like this group. This batch is vocal!

27 - Cactus ( @GodLovesU ) has hatched! She came out of the shell a little bloody, so I gently rubbed corn meal on her back end, as I wasn't sure if the blood was just from the membrane, or maybe the umbilical. Figured it wouldn't hurt, but might help (It has worked. No new bleeding). She rested, wobbled to her feet a little, and is now asleep again.

While the same breed, Cactus is a lighter color and patterning. Maybe dark brown with buff underneath. She's in the shadows of the incubator, but I can definitely tell she's lighter than Acacia.

21 - Salvia ( @ValkerieGunn ) has hatched! A bottom part of her shell just wouldn't let go and I was worried it would tear the umbilicus (which was clear). So yes, I helped get that off of her. Once she wasn't dragging the part of a shell and membrane around she started trying to find her feet. Between quick catnaps, of course. :celebrate
