Garden plant issues!!

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

Yes, most chickens know not to eat what can kill them and will only eat these bad things if they are very hungry. So as long as they have ample feed available to them, you don't have to worry too much. But if you do know something is poisonous, I would still remove it just in case. Welcome to our flock!

Yes she is sitting on them I just pushed her off to she what she had and wile I was taking pictures her boy friend jumped on my back so I leave her alone now .....

What a good dad, but not for you!

I think I would leave her be too! They are big birds. I had forgotten how big. Back in the 60's, my grandmother had the neighbors guineas come over all the time. She didn't mind a bit. She had a large place, they just meandered over for company with her other fowl I think..and maybe the bugs by her stream that ran through her property. :)

Ya the 1960's was when I was first introduced to the guinea and the lady who had them said they were her door bell and bug catchers and as a young kid I did not understand but just said Okay and went along my way as my dad was hired to work on their bulldozer and I was to hand him the tools .....

But yes their feathers do make them look big and guinea do have some good claws ....

Thanks for that. They do have ample feed, plus plenty of treats and the garden is quite large so they should be kept busy with the good stuff! I have to be careful giving them their wholegrain rice and cheese evening treat, i love watching them enjoy it so much but i'll end up with 3 fat girls!

Welcome to BYC - as others have said chickens seem to have a great instinct as to what is safe to eat and what is not. Continue to enjoy your flock.
Yes, it is a relief to know i can let them out and they won't get into too much trouble!
Never had chickens before, am totally fascinated by them, they are so much fun to watch.
cheers

I have oleanders on this property and the girls don't go near them. They seems to know they are toxic. Your good plants- non toxic they will eat so if you want to keep some alive you will need to keep them off them.

So now I am very concerned! I looked at the list of toxic plants referenced above and it includes Flax. I have read in some of the "treat threads" here that people are feeding flax even to chicks. I have fed flax seeds to my chicks and they are fine. Is it just the plant that's toxic or the seeds too? That is an awful big list!! Thoughts??

Hi and thanks for the advice.
The garden is pretty hardy and weedy (from seeds dropping in while feeding the local visitors!).
Just saw this online and thinking of ordering the Clucker Tucker - you ever heard of it or grown these plants?
