Things are going into bloom so I thought I'd share. I have 2 tulip trees. One blooms and other never did.:idunno They are both same age about 25 feet tall.

Since I am not growing trees for lumber, have been replanting with flowering varieties. The tulip trees are the tallest. Most of the other trees are medium height when mature. (just like I want):)

Gorgeous! What other trees have you planted?

I have Flowering pear, Scarlet Hawthorn, 2 kind of Crabapple, Japanese Maple, Sour Cherry Tree, Rose of Sharon that grow about 12 feet tall, and quite a few Plum Trees. I had to do major neutering on these because of the Black KNOT FUNGUS.
I planted Flowering Dogwood twice, and both times failed to thrive. :idunno
I also had 2 Flowering Cherry trees. (non fruit bearing) that also died off.
This year we had a delayed Spring arrival due to cold weather persisting in our area. The 2 following pix are from last year. This year the blooms were only about 10% of these.

did i mention the doe hops our pasture fence too?
Deer can clear a 6' fence like we step over a 2'.

i would rather just talked to the new neighbor first, the dog was a rescue and yes. on our property in my garden in fact, not the first time either but we weren't here all winter but she was here a couple of times before with the lady chasing her, normally don't care unless shes chasing my chickens or tramping my plants:mad:
Time for THEM to put up something that will contain their dog.

Aren't pine needles good mulch for them?
Yes, blueberries like acid soil, like ph 5. I've read that coffee grounds are good for them too, must be they are acidic.

Beautiful! So most of these you have listed are medium trees? I need one medium tree that'll shade my garden in the afternoon. 12 feet max would be perfect.

We have lots of tulip trees on our land. I really like how straight and tall they grow.

Yes, most do not grow very big with the exception of the Tulip tree. The crabapple trees may grow to maybe 20 feet but may take many years to reach that. The trunks do not get very large diameter also. The Hawthorns seem slower growing than the crabapple. The flowering pear grows relatively quick, but medium height, and also narrow. It is a common tree municipalities plant on the narrow portion between street and sidewalk.

The Rose of Sharon variety (there are more than one) that grows in a flower bed against my garage is a common one. I let it grow jungle wild to form a bush like habitat. My chickens like to go there and feel safe from flying raptors, as well as shade. Individual plants can be trained to grow like a tree or bush, by pruning appropriately or not.

This picture shows how prolific the seeds sprout in the ground below. This is before I run over with mower/weed wacker, as it is in lawn area under trees.

If anyone is interested in these plants, I can send seeds in the fall. I would just drop a quantity into an envelope and forward VIA Pony Express. Free of course,, :highfive:
