I had hubby build a 30" tall garden out of pallets for me last year. Which is good cause he has had to have neck surgery shoulder is shot this year! It's a bugger getting old. !! We made it out of 3 sets of stacked pallets covered with barn metal (Pic attached )and tons of soil. LOTS OF STICKS in garden soil and yes I think the quality has slipped . We got some from Ace that wasn't bad, and I found some at farm supply store that turned out like stuff from years gone by. Nice surprise. I love not getting down to ground to plant. I also aquired several mineral tubs this year and made them into wicking tubs so that also helps to keep things higher. Lots of work up front but will last for a long while. Oh and even tried a tote in an old lawn chair! that works great.

as of 7AM today, I finally am done planting trees. I now have 2 apple, 2 pears and 3 cherries.
I backfilled about half of the asparagus.
spread the container tomatoes farther apart.
I have 10 tomatoes in containers and 12 waiting to go in.
I have to "borrow" some more potting dirt from the kids.
Only half of the bean seeds came up. but what did come up is really doing great. I will replant the vacant spots and have some later beans.
the beets are coming up.
the strawberries didn't do squat. the lettuce is coming along nicely.

Yeah Bruce, I take care of the wild life pretty good. can't have them starving on my watch.
Everything here is growing pretty good. We had plenty of rain. I won't have to water for a few more days. and then maybe it will rain again before that.
I finally got the grapes weeded and tied up. I could find only 3 of the 6 that I planted. Those look good, though. I have some growing in the old spot. I can transplant three roots from there.

Flowers on the zucchini and yellow squash plants, no fruit.
Male or female blossoms? Male blossoms will never turn into squash but are necessary to pollinate the female blossoms. In my experience, it is common to get male blossoms before the female blossoms start.
