I could be wrong, but from what I understand, these are not lady bugs, but potato beetles. They were imported from Asia to eat aphids and things. I hate those suckers. Sometimes, my entire door is covered in them. And they do bite.
You are right, they are not the "real" lady bugs". But, they are not potato beetles either, at least any kind of potato beetle or bug that I know of. And yes, they bite, and that bite hurts. A lot of beetles will bite or pinch if you restrain them in your hands. But these "lady bugs" will bite just for the pleasure of it.

You have stink bugs in your house? We just have a few stray Asian lady beetles, and drunken flies.
Yes, a sort of stink bug will find it's way into my house on occasion. Several weeks ago, I went down stairs at my church to visit the "Lady's room". But, one of the men was standing in the open door way. He was quite embarrassed to find me wanting to enter when he had the door way blocked. His wife then came around the corner, to explain that she had sent him in there to kill a huge horrid bug that she had seen. So I asked her: "Was it big, and kind of shaped like a shield? Was it brown? Did it have long weird shaped legs, and long antennae? And did it move real slow?" She kept answering in the affirmative. So, I told her that it was a stink bug. Hubby came out of the bathroom and told her that the coast was clear. Of course she was not convinced that it was gone, b/c it had no where to go. Didn't help her paranoia much when I told her that they were excellent fliers, and were about the color of her hair. "Did you check to be sure it didn't land in your hair?" Sometimes I just can't resist yanking some one's chain!
The ones that get into my house, and no doubt the one that visited the ladies room looked like this one:

And, stink bugs will also bite. My dog HATES them and will go nuts attacking them when she finds them. No doubt b/c she's been bit by them before. When she starts harassing one in the living room, I can tell from the next room b/c I can smell it that far away.
