I hate to say it, but rabbit-keeping sounds disgusting! I mean, we've had a few rabbits over the years, but all but one just lived out in the yard in a large, fenced-off area. The last one, lived in a big "porch", which was attached to the outside of a house we rented. It had a raised flower bed that used to be outside the house, but was now inside the porch. Our rabbit, "Mr. Bun" made a den in it! He was a really nice rabbit, and didn't stink! :bun

We raised meat rabbits at our place in FL. They were "ok" but my least favorite of our other animals (chickens and goats). One of the males only liked DH and whenever I had to feed & water him, he'd try to bite me. Finally, I had to resort to wearing long leather gloves to take care of him when DH wasn't available. Let me tell you, a rabbit bite hurts!

They always looks so sweet and cuddly, but beware of vampire rabbits...those things are scary!

Talk about biting the hand that feeds you. Not smart! Did you have him for dinner?

I bought by then 10 year old daughter a New Zealand for a pet. He was just weaned. She held him fed homand we litter box trained him. Even after he was grown she could pick him up and lug him every where and he never even scratched her. It's like raising any other animal. It's how you handle them when they are young. All the males I raised I hand fed treats so they would not be scared of me. I also picked them up regularly to check them over. From day 2-3 so they don't get scared of you.

That male liked other males just fine, no problem with scratching or biting. He didn't like me or my female friend. Weird guy, he just preferred males.

The first male meat rabbit dh I got was never handled and he never bit us but he did not want to be touched. He was very spoiled here even though we did not hold him.
I guess some are just weird.

Oh, our little dwarf rabbit, "Mr. Bun" was very tame. We held him a lot, and even when we moved cross-country, he laid on my lap in the truck the whole way. When we stopped to eat, I'd just put him in his crate. He was funny, when I'd lay down by him, he would come over and lick my face for a loooong time. Not sure why, but he seemed to enjoy it. I wondered if it was sort of like a salt block for him - lol.
