Which Bob are you referring to? My Gold Nugget is doing great with lots of ripe tomatoes on it. I did have to put a heater in the greenhouse because of the low nighttime temperatures.

Sorry for being foggy-headed, not enough coffee yet. Yes, you, the Bob in WY, lol.

Glad to hear your Nugget is doing well!

I planted Kale transplants yesterday, spread ash in the garden, pulled weeds, planted more violets and primrose. 20180406_172440.jpg

Really dying to get some more seeds planted but i have been busy building stuff for the animals!View attachment 1328607
Built a run for that litter of 7 babies and Panther, their mom.
That turned out nice. Can we get cute bunny pictures. My doe is due this coming week. This time on purpose.

I love the barn!
Thanks, my husband has claim on the red barn, though my bantam coop is in it, my shed is the tan shed on the left. Used to be a tin pole shed that we are converting to wood siding.

Not much happening this week. I do have more asparagus coming up. Looks like all the ones I transplanted are surviving so far. I moved 12 older crowns and added a few more new ones to the bed.

I am dealing with fire ants. With all the rain we've been having, they are on the move and popping up everywhere! I have some new ant bait that is supposed to be safe to use around fruits & veggies. So far I've just been hosing the heck out of them with the water hose trying to get them to move on. It works, but wrecks havoc in your planting area.

I had to go out this afternoon and cover up the garden. Temps are supposed to be 37 in the morning, but our temps tend to run a bit lower since we are in a little hollow. Sure don't want anything to freeze at this point.

I did clean out the coops this week and put all the bedding out into the runs. Added about 2 loads of leaves into each coop for the summer. Cleaned out the nests and added pine straw instead of shavings. The girls seem to like the pine straw ok.

Whooohoo- fire ants are the bane of my existence- beside moles. I am afraid to do much to them except use DE- they move the nest a few feet away- I keep doing that until they hit the neighbor's yard. I don't mind using AMDRO in the front yard, but the dog and chicken yards have to be safe. I wonder of boric acid will do the job and be safe.

Consider adding 50% powdered sugar, and try to see if it attracts fire ants. Don't have fire ants where I live. Not sure if fire ants like sweet. I use the mix to control the ants by the house. I don't know the variety, but they are just a nuisance and do not bite.
