Gardening for Old Folks (Adaptative)

Our weather looks crappy 30-40's, rain snow, high winds. Definitely nothing as far as gardening here in the foreseeable future, and I'm starting to think never. :(
It is bound to happen eventually. Do you have seedlings growing?

I do have a couple of trays of zinnia and marigolds, plus 9 tomatoes started. My mother always says weather changes at the new moon, we will see next week.

Whooohoo- fire ants are the bane of my existence- beside moles. I am afraid to do much to them except use DE- they move the nest a few feet away- I keep doing that until they hit the neighbor's yard. I don't mind using AMDRO in the front yard, but the dog and chicken yards have to be safe. I wonder of boric acid will do the job and be safe.

No, boric acid really doesn't do much. Bait worked great and my chickens are fine because they don't eat ants. Amdro or some other brand we have on the ground near their place and walk away. They were gone in short order.

Still waiting here. More snow may be coming. Nice flowers.
Thank you. We are not done with the snow yet. I don't recall any year when my crabapple tree has not ended up with snow on the blossoms and that tree has not budded out yet.
