My goats will eat roses. Not sure how they pull that off.

Goats won't necessarily clear land, they will hit and miss at stuff. They will definitely destroy any trees, shrubs, and raspberry brambles.

They will for the most part only graze down to about 6 inches above the ground unless they are very hungry. You may be better off renting a large brush cutter than messing with goats.

Got my Kozy Kotes filled with water today, (the red things.) Only got a little bit soaked this year doing it. I will let them warm up for a day or two before planting my tomatoes in them to get a jump on the season. I also seeded some more lettuce and cabbage, and peas.

Anybody ever use goats to clear brush? We have a hillside full of multiflora rose that is virtually impenetrable, and my wife is threatening to rent some goats to eat it into submission. I've seen the results of that at one of the neighbor's...the goats ate everything including the bark off the trees. That area looks like a wasteland now. Also I think only certain goats will eat the multiflora rose. I'm inclined to leave it be for the moment and look at the options.
Yes, we cleared a lot of land with goats. Mine loved all types of roses.

Do you have "rent-a-goat" in your area? That way you don't have to own them they just come in, do the job, then gone!

I did have 2 (Spanish and Spanish/Boer cross) that I kept for a season to clear an area here. Worked quite well, but I used Electric netting go restrict their area until they had finished an area, then moved it to another area. That way they don't just run all over taking some things and leaving others.

Our neighbor did the "rent a goat" thing and that's where she got the idea. They tied them to trees, but we were thinking of using a section of our electric poultry mesh fence to contain them as you did. I about have her convinced to let me try a "cut and paint " approach with my brush cutter. I can be a little more selective and can save the saplings. I'm willing to throw on the Carhartts and wade in there to save my native plants.
