DD#2 gave us these Hydrangeas. I needed a nice spot for them,, So I boxed in a raised bed, and planted them. Removed the sod from underneath, so I wont get grass growing thru. Filled the 8 inches or so with screened topsoil. I will plant some lilies in same bed ether late fall, or early spring. Have a few gladiolas planted in one corner.
This is the mechanism I made to screed out the topsoil. I got about 5 yards of topsoil for free. It came from a patio project where the lawn was dug out, and patio placed in. My machine removes the rocks,, grass clumps, and everything else undesirable. (bottle caps,, plastic toys,, glass, etc.) The screened soil is mity fine, as seen in 3rd pix. Last pix is what my free pile looks like.

Really happy how this turned out for me. :frow
I have enough soil to make my raised bed in the far portion of back yard. It will be 8 inches above the grass lawn also. Project for later this fall.

Ah. Just something you figured out or did you find some sort of plans on the net?
I just figured it out . I was braining a few different ideas to screen the 5 yards of free topsoil.

One was to convert my cement mixer to have a round screen type cylinder attached to the inlet. That would work,, but required more work to complete.
This is the concept I considered making. Only the drum portion,,, attached to my working cement mixer.

I wrote up my contraption on another thread.

BTW.. the screening grate is from my Truck I had long ago. I just never installed it when I changed my muffler. Grate stayed in my garage idle, all this time,, until I found a repurpose for it.
Picture is from online. Not my truck,, but mine was pretty much same. K100.
