I personally think that giving your hens garlic is like betting on the wrong horse. It is much better to just diagnose issues and treat them with specific medicines, I think that is better for their systems in the long run.
I use herbs all the time for me and my family, but a lot of herbs, including garlic, have a strong effect on ones system. Chickens also only weigh a couple of pounds. I think the amount of herbs you would need to influence their health would also stress their systems and organs trying to process the compounds. Especially since herbs need to be administered for a great length of time to be effective.
