Just been to check on my chucks and one of them (lavender moran) is stood gasping for breath stretching her neck out as she takes in air.

Anyone know what could be wrong abd what I should do next?

Does it do that when it eats? Or all the time? I have chicks that do that when they eat because they put too much in their beaks, and if it's not you might want to give it some antibiotics ASAP I had a hen who started gasping for air and I didn't know what to do and she died, hope everything works out great

Thank you for your reply.
Sadly she passed away a few hours ago!
I checked air way - looked clear
I checked crop- felt normal

We had separated her from the group and brought her indoors. After we checked her over her breathing became shallower and then started to fit before then end :-(

Had my 6 girls for only a year. My first girl to pass away so very sad this evening.

Is there anything that I should/could buy if this was to happen again?

This exact thing just happened to me. Noticed she was sick and gasping for air and sounded rattily so I brought her in... 8hrs later she is dead. Pretty sure mine was respiratory infection as she did one final cough which brought up some blood and then died. Only 22weeks old and was vaccinated as day old. I have just been down disinfecting everything hoping it won't spread to the rest of my flock.... Goodluck. I am sorry you lost her :-(

Sorry for the late reply but just keep the area disinfected and if something like this happens again go to your feed store and they can help you with medications or other ways to resolve it.
