We found one of our Pekins laying outside their duck house this evening bleeding. She was able to try to get away as we caught her to clean her up. Looks like she lost half a wing and a chunk out of her leg. Was bleeding pretty badly so I used 1:1 ratio of peroxide and water to clean the wound and have her wrapped in a towel in our laps clotting the wound. Hubs walked around the pond and spotted a two foot gator. Any other suggestions?

@Miss Lydia @casportpony may have suggestions. I don't know if they are full of bacteria like cats are but I would think they would be. Maybe antibiotics? Casportpony will be the best one on that. Do you have Vetericyn to put on the wounds once they are cleaned up? I'd also keep her real quite and inside in a cage or box by herself to rest with water and food readily available.

Yes they’re teeth are nasty and more than often have a lot of bacteria! So I think antibiotics and a good wash is a good idea!

Gators teeth are disgusting! They are filled with bacteria and other nastiness. I would definitely get some antibiotics for her.

I agree, I just wish I knew which one to tell her to get! I have my list of what med does what but I'm not confident enough to recommend anything since my charts are not for ducks. @casportpony is the expert on what to give and how much depending on the injury. I'm leaning toward one of the "cillins" because they are recommended for bad wound infections but I want to wait for her to tell us.
