I gave my chickens wormer about a week ago, and I'm not sure if we can keep/eat their eggs. The first few we had I scrambled and gave to our baby chicks, and now we are getting an egg build up and I hate to waste all these eggs. Can we eat these since its only wormer we gave them? Or should we continue to hold them back? Growing up a dairy farm and now living/working on one with my bf's family, I'm sure we've ingested a lot worse when we work cattle, and not to mention the things that soak into our skin during vaccinations, worming and the dehorning days. I could see if it was antibiotics, but this was just wormer. Any idea's? My dad say eat em, my bf says he don't know. I'm lost in the middle.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

I guess it depends on exactly what you've given them. I use Wazine and it is recommended that you don't eat the eggs for 10 or 14 days (I can't remember which). I have scrambled them and given them to the dogs during that time. I don't feed them back to the layers because it would just recontaminate them with the meds.

That's what I used was Wazine. But such a small dose, in their water, how much is actually getting to the chickens, and further more how much is really getting into the eggs? Is it really enough to hurt a human? Just curious. For now I guess I'll just keep feeding them to the other animals around. Is it safe to give them to my week and a half old chicks?

I was told not to eat them for 14 days and not to feed back to chickens because you are giving them the meds again. I would just throw them away. That is what I did It really bites

Do I think it's going to kill you? No. Would I give them to my children. No. Would I eat them as a nursing mother? No.

You should do what you think is best for your situation. Good luck!

All wormers say to hold egg consumption for 7-10 day after using it except the "all natural" ones, which may or may not work any way. However, most animal wormers can also be used in humans. Wazine is piperazine, which is FDA approved for human use. Chicken dosages should be well lower than the dosages in adult humans.

I suspect they say to hold the eggs because the product is labeled for animal use only. But if the same drug can be used safely in humans, I don't see any reason to not eat the eggs. Kids, however, may be a different story, due to them needed more caution taking any drug. But I don't see any reason an adult could not consume the eggs after worming.

Might not sell them unless buyer is aware of the presence of wormer and OK with it.

All adults here, and I wouldn't consider it for children or nursing mothers. Thank you all for your input. I appreciate it.

You could eat the eggs, feed to dogs and cats and any livestock, and worm everyone at the same time!

Piperazine WAS FDA approved for human use, but was discontinued due to newer meds that are safer in children (all the ...bendazoles).

Thank you aggie9296! Maybe my dear bf will get brave and eat one! Ha! Or since my dad is convinced it won't hurt us, I could give the surplus eggs to him! LOL!
