gave turkey a shot of tylan in leg, now he cant use leg, what happened

Hi Jason,

I'm glad you posted your thread, because it helps members learn things.....I myself am a big sissy and afraid to give shots, so I always put the Tylan in the drinking water with great results. Now, once I did have a sick rooster, and he became so ill he was nearly unconscious. I actually could feel his fever when I touched his head. I gave him the tylan water with a dropper every half hour or so, and the next morning, he was on his feet, and he just got better and better.

I would think his leg might get better if you put him in a cage so he will have to rest a bit. maybe give him some vitamins and electrolites too.....

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

a lot of times an injection (whether it's a vaccine or an antibiotic) will form a knot in the tissue.. if the nerve wasnt severed its quite possible that the injection did form a knot which is pressing on the nerve causing it to go numb.. hopefully there wont be any permanent damage.. which is why I said I would give him a week or two to recover..
birds are pretty tough.. and can survive and recover from a lot of things which would bring down other critters.. so please give him some time and hopefully things sort themselves out

He is safely tucked into a tractor by himself and the others were starting to pick on him due to the leg. He was the top cock in the group of jakes before this. I am hoping he wil recoup as he is a very large red bronze and has a pretty mello personality.

Tylan injectable has been my favorite abx. Works wonders for chickens (I don't know Turkeys at all), but now you all have me nervous. I will have to do more research on the possible muscle damage. I usually give sub Q in the back of the neck.

Hope your Big Boy is strutting around soon!!
