geeez another temp complaint! 106 degrees!

My edit of that post was trying to mention that HB 1588. I just couldn't
rememeber the model. It does seem that is the most stable styrofoam bator
in production, at least from what I have read.

Of course most of us can't take an old box and make it a 90% hatch bator
like some people..

oh?! The light bulb goes off. I did not even think or realize the reasons for the unstable temps, duh!

Well the reason I only 1 in there is because the other dozen did not make it and I threw them out.. sheeeesh good to know! I have 2 incubators. (well soon to be 3)

The R-com 20 which I started all of them in because it has the auto turner and I was using the little giant as the hatcher, unfortunately my egg luck has been horrible and most never developed.

I just purchased and awaiting the arrival of The Genesis by GFQ or Hova Bator. (Im still confused on that).

Well day 22 9:24 am and no pip yet. I just checked the temp 100 and humidity 68% I sure hope the little feller hatches.

What are you confused about?

Seriously, please do not take this the wrong way. It is good to be gung ho and want to hatch eggs and have lots of little chicks, but you need to do one complete hatch in that Rcom start to finish before you get more eggs. Stop staggering your hatches until you know what you are doing.

All of this switching and moving you are setting yourself up for failure.

If you don't understand the processes running in the other incubators how do you expect to get them to work together to provide a stable environment for an egg to hatch in?

Eggs are tough little suckers but they can only take so much up and down and moving around with heat spikes and then sudden low temps thrown in the mix before they quit growing and you have a box of dead or dying chicks that never pipped.

Please don't get upset with this this response.

You are dealing with a life. Albeit it is only a chicken but it is a life. Mistakes happen and we all have a rotten hatch but it is kind of sad to repeatedly have a hatch loss due to our own mistakes and not learning from them.

I am sorry if this sounds rude or harsh.

Im not offended Miss Prissy. I understand what you are saying. I Ordered the Genesis (I was confused about who made it is all Does GFQ make Hova Bator?)

I ordered the Genesis a couple days ago thinking it the little giant incubator was not working right, it never occured to me that it was just the one egg not being enough to stablize the temps. The little Giant is a borrowed incubator from last year when I hatched out some eggs.

The only reason I moved the eggs was because I had some eggs shipped early and I wasn't ready for them yet, so I moved two over originally because they were the only two that developed and it was time to throw the others out. And at around day 18 when I candled I could see the 2nd egg brought over was not moving and not developed like the other so it too got thrown out.

The 20 eggs I have now in the R-Com are staying in the R-Com until they hatch, but I have some goose eggs coming at the end of this hatch and some chicken eggs so I wanted two incubators. Does that make sense? I am on my second season of hatching, but i think ignorance is bliss because I had such better hatches so far last year, ha ha.

I do not like LG's. Some do I happen to be one that doesn't.

GQF does make Hova Bator.

Good luck with your hatch and the upcoming hatches.

Oh also Miss Prissy-I have had four batches of eggs so far.

1.) none developed at all, not even the hint of veins. I cracked them all open to varify and they were in the R-Com the entire time no switching.

2nd) 12 arrived in the mail-all but 4 were broken. They came at the same time as batch 1 and so I put the 4 in there just to see if anything happend. Only 1 developed. The rest stayed clear. The one did hatch out with a hernia and died after 3 days (

3rd) were 12 replacement eggs for the ones that broke in the mail. Only 2 developed the rest stayed clear. Of the 2 only 1 (that is in the little giant now) actually stayed alive until the end. BUT its day 22 and no signs of a pip

4th) are 20 Gold-Sex link eggs sent from an etirely different person and I was certain after 1 week in the bator (on day 10 now) that 13/14 were alive and moving, though I could see that ALL had veins. 21 days is up on the 21st of this month.

You don't have to explain to me about the chicks being alive-I completely agree with you. I am a nurse and I take care of human patients and I take my job seriously and I get attached to chicks just as much as humans. Also my brother-in-law is a vetranarian and he has always been willing to help me with my animals even if its a waste of his time, because he knows how much I care for them.

I come to this forum because even though many of these people on here are "not animal doctors" they are more knowledgable than my Brother-in-law on hatching poultry and I look for advice and help so I don't repeat my mistakes. I will never take offense to advice offered. I get attached to my little animals that hatch out. I got rid of my female chocolate lab last year because she almost killed one of my ducks! I choose my poultry over my dog! So please feel free to unload and let me have it because I want to learn and not make mistakes. Its always frustrating to me and upsetting when something goes wrong.

It frustrates me also. I am living in an old house. The last couple batches of eggs I have tried failed miserably and it was very frustrating. I think it was a combination of my house being very cold and the humidity flux is big as well as rough handling by the PO. One box of eggs had a lot of floating air cells and some never developed at all either.

Your RCom 20 is a "state of art" & "hands off" incubator. You're hatches
in there sould be great.

I suspect you are having egg shipping issues as so many of us have had this year.

You need a baseline. Find some local fertile eggs and cook them in the Rcom.
See what kind of hatch you get.
