Geese hate their house!

So it does sound like you might need a dog out there to watch things.

my lab stays inside but she is a fierce protector. She’d stay outside if I let her but she’s my hunny! The second she hears the geese honking at something her alarm sounds and she will start barking from inside.

Thanks for all the good info! Do you lock yours up at night completely or just give them their shelter to stay in?

Mine are locked up in the dog kennels at night, not the travel crates, that would be too confined, those are basically just nest boxes inside the dog kennels.

I'm curious, because I have 3 pairs of Pilgrim Geese ordered from Bell's Conservancy. Do you use separate sheds to house each pair during breeding season? (What size do you use? Does the size differ between varieties of geese, due to differences in aggressiveness? (I'm aware there may be differences within a variety, but just looking for general trends)

Generally speaking, no, since they are all the same variety it should be fine. However, the ganders may not get along and separate enclosures may be needed.

I have 3 Embden goslings. Can you guys recommend a size for a door to cut into an existing coop? I was thinking 20"x30"

Mine are not a fan of narrow spaces.

That might be fine for goslings, but Embdens can reach over 30" when fully grown.
