I'm not Olive Hill but yes you can.@Olive Hill Sooo would I be able to use these tips towards my male pekin duck ?
The main thing is being consistent if he comes back do it again till he gets the message, I carried a broom with me when my drake was acting like this and when he would come after me I'd sweep him away [not hitting him with the broom] but sweeping him away and i'd keep the broom between him and me, other times I'd go after him and make him get out of my way just to let him know i am leader not him, Holding him down like i have seen my drakes to each other they make them lay there while they are kinda biting on them but not hard. More a submissive thing I think, then they let them up. It's hard work but if you stick with it he'll finally get the message, and then you'll probably have to remind him once in a while. Always wear shoes that cover your feet don't leave your toes exposed for him to bite. and best not to feed him out of your hand while your training him. When I would turn my back on my drake and i have only had 1 drake do this the other 3 never have, he would come charging after me so I would turn around and catch him off guard by charging him.Now Opie will be 3 in June and he is such a sweet drake, I could not have said that when he turned 4 months old. lolOkay awesome I have tried it a few times before but he never backs off after I hold him down. He walks away a bit and then charges again
Quote: You are so right. You have to be the "alpha" duck or goose! Most waterfowl "pin" the opposing Drake or Gander.
Watching the Canadians at the park across the street it is the same. They also flog the opponent with their wings.
Mallard ducks do it too.
If he is being aggressive with you every day then yes. if your not there then of course you can't but if someone else is taking care of them and he is acting this way towards them then they need to train him also. This is great thanks both of you and I have noticed it I have a broom (sweeping poop) with me he definately back off! Sounds great Im sure I can keep up with this however does it have to be everyday as I ak only home before dark every 2 days but ill be persistant everytime I'm outside
