that was a well written article, but like so many others, the illustrations were unclear and not described well enough as to what we were supposed to look for...

I am not trying to be critical.. I just am not comfortable wrestling with a 20 pound goose with not knowing what to look for..

I wondered the same thing when I got my geese last spring. Supposedly a goose's voice is lower than a gander's. And while this is true in my pair (Yes, I ended up with one of each), I never heard it until after my goose started laying. My advice is wait until they are of breeding age and then you will know.

when I was starting with geese, I bought a pair at a swap..

first of all I bought them after egg laying season was over.. but I kept them for a year until the next spring. they mated.. the large one was the gander.. but no eggs ever came.. so we sent that pair to the freezer.. what we learned when we gutted them was they were actually a pair of ganders,,,...
