Gender and Breed of Latest Arrival

The funny thing is that we do live in a neighborhood! Right here in the middle of suburbia--kinda woodsy suburbia, but still! I think that keeping chickens is getting more and more popular around here.

We were so happy that we found the rightful owners of this little hen. I looked at the golden-laced Wyandotte breed pics, too, and agree that she doesn't look like them! But that's what the owners said she was.

The owners said that most of her tail feathers were gone; I hadn't known that because I wasn't sure what breed she was. I guess something got after her and she took off. She's a real survivor. She had feathers missing on her back, too.

We have coyotes in our neighborhood so we have to be careful. Now my two remaining chickens free-range only under supervision.

Thanks for everyone's help in figuring out what kind of chicken she is.

Susan
