Some breeds produce sex linked offspring.
Other breeds will produce sex linked chicks depending on what colors are bred in relation to the gender of the parents. For example, some colors or markings are passed down from mother to son or father to daughter, and so on

In most cases waiting 4-6 weeks is the only accurate way. Vent sexing is for trained specialists. Feather sexing only works on chicks specifically bred for that trait, by using a fast feathering male over a slow feathering female. Sex linked chicks can be created by either using a solid colored male (non white, non barred) over a barred female, or a gold male over a silver female. There are a small number of autosexing breeds as well. But if your chicks do not fall into any of these categories you have to wait until the chicks are 4-6 weeks old, or older in the case of most silkies.
