Gender guesses on this Lavender Orpington chick?

I'll try to get a newer picture of this guy so you can see. Here he is at 6 and 1/2 weeks. He's now coming up on 4 months and visually looks darker to me. He was fairly light, but the green grass contrasts his body and makes him look a little darker. Maybe try taking a few shots of your little one on a darker background like grass.

Wait....whaaaaat??? NOT a Lavender Orpington chick???? 😳😳😳

Is it perhaps the lighting in the pics?? Maybe I should take some more pics for you guys to judge?

I got Lavender Orpington hatching eggs from a very reputable woman on eBay. A wonderful, Christian woman I might add, lol. The information in her description was very extensive and detailed on her whole Lavender Orpington operation.

@FeatherTay , I’m looking at your pic of your 5 week old Lavender Orpington pullet and it pretty much looks the same as mine. 🤷🏻‍♀️
I thought they looked the same too 😬 Good thing they grow so fast, it isn’t too long to see what they end up being!

Wattles, pink tinge and lack of tail make me think boy. Does he have any siblings to compare with? That's usually the easiest way to find out at this age.
No, this chick was the only one that hatched under my broody mama. There are no other siblings to compare to.

Does a pink tinged comb mean male?

Typically, yes. The girls generally don't start blushing up till point of lay. Keep an eye on the feathers by the base of the tail. If the next set come in pointy, it's a roo for sure, but I'd personally call it now.

We've done a few hatches and are urban, so all potential roos have to go. We had slw in our last hatch with 5\2 boys to girls. There was only one boy I wasn't sure on by 5 weeks.

Have a new batch to look after... Some orpingtons in there, but they're only 5 days old, so too early to really call anything.

Yeah Orps are tough to sex as young as yours. I would say watch the wattles and see if they keep growing or stay about the same. These are my LOs around 4-5 weeks old…and they were both boys :-( but I also have a mauve Orp pullet and she looked a lot like them at this age. Hers just never grew bigger or darker. I knew by 8 weeks even though I didn’t want to admit it!

I really appreciate you guys sending your pics, they are very helpful!

I see what you mean about the color. Mine is quite light, isn’t it? Is that unfavorable for Lavender Orps? I assumed that the color would become more enhanced after all of its feathers came in.

So does the comb on my chick look particularly pink to you guys? Looking at the pics from @Aunt Angus , her chick’s comb looks pink but it ended up being a pullet. The size of it looks smaller than the chicks in the pics from @kurby22 though.

Ugh. Waiting to figure out the sex takes soooo loooooong! 😂

I wouldn't worry about the color being lighter. It may change when it feathers out. Are you planning to breed?
