Hi! I’m a new chick owner and have two Barred Rocks and an Australorp - all were hatched on March 1. They were sexed as pullets, but one - the smallest - has become the alpha. When I stick my hand in their playpen to pet them or pick them up, it comes at my hand bobbing and weaving like Rocky after the bell. It’s not being aggressive - doesn’t try to peck me - but the other two stand back and let the little one roll up and check things out. I couldn’t get a great head shot, but there’s no color on the comb - still yellow. Do the feathers say one way or the other? Thanks!!!

I’m leaning towards pullet but it’s a bit early to tell

Here are mine at about the same age. Left is a pullet right was a cockerel.

Notice more black on the barring on the pullet and the difference in the legs and comb size/color.

I think it’s a girl, hard to tell at this age though. I think sometimes the smallest ones want to be alpha for some reason, maybe they want to make up for their size? We have a speckled Sussex that’s a midget compared to the others, ‘she’ is about your chicks age, 20 days old. She is also very assertive.
