Hello. Long time listener, first time caller! New to raising chickens and I got these California Greys from Tractor Supply. Supposedly a mix between barred rock and I think a leghorn. Right off the bat these “pullets” have a red comb and wattle but I don’t see the definitive tail and hackle feathers identifying a male. Pics I look up looks like hens and roosters have similar combs and waffles. Can someone tell me male or female?View attachment 2191553

Can you repost the photo? California Greys are supposedly gender selectable at hatch. I'd ordered pullets only and kind of wish I'd gotten one boy just to compare. But I wouldn't have been able to keep him.

I have seen one post (and ran across yours trying to find it again) where someone posted their sole CA Grey/Gray. It certainly looked a bit like a male, but later proved to be female so I suspect this breed develops a little differently than the Barred Rock people compare them to. (And though there is Leghorn and Barred Rock in them, it's unclear HOW they were finally set to breed true as their own breed).

I post this question on the off chance the OP will get an email...doesn't look like s/he has been here in awhile.
