This is my first year with turkeys and I have two Spanish turkeys. I’ve tried playing calls to get them to gobble, but they just tilt heads 🤷‍♀️ I read that females have lighter tips and a Mohawk up the head, while males have dark tips and no feathers up the head. Is that what anyone else sees in the pictures? One male one female?

What age are they?

When submitting photos for identifying the sex of a turkey, show a full frontal picture of each bird, a full side view and a view from the back looking down at the turkey showing the top of the head and back of the neck.

I was trying to get all the photos you mentioned and thought I had sufficient pictures. I can try again tomorrow. They hatched July 8th

That makes them 3 1/2 months old.

The closest one in the last photo is a hen. She is the one with the gray at the base of her tail. The gray feathers indicate to me that she is a Black from a slate heritage. When you breed two Blue Slates together, they can produce Blue slates, Self Blues and Blacks. All of the blacks that were produced from my slates had that gray coloring near the base of their tails.

Great information! I got the pair from a hatchery and wanted to breed them. I was going to introduce a palm or slate hen to the group as well.

Both of them appear to be young hens from what I can tell. I have a Blue Slate jake younger than that and it is already quite obvious he's male.
