Gender Please

We can't have roosters in our town, but before I break the news to my daughter that her beloved Scully may be a Mulder, can I get a second opinion? This Rhode Island Red is 7 1/2 weeks old. The other one has a yellow comb and little to no wattle, so I'm highly suspicious that this one is male.

Here's the pretty gal... guy? He wasn't a very patient model today, sorry.

I do believe you have a Mulder, not a Scully. That comb is pretty out there.

That's a boy, sorry. If it's any consolation, that looks like a RIR to me, and the roosters can be really vicious. You probably wouldn't want to keep him if you were allowed.

Unless you don't mind letting it grow to first crow and learn the skill of butchering a bird. Not trying to be tacky at all but it could be life lesson that might be age appropriate for your daughter depending on where your compass guides you.
