Gender question?

[Love my layers]

It is a Polish silver lace. Its name is Herbie and it is 12weeks old. Can anyone tell us what gender it is?

That is an adorable chicken!

My first guess is that Herbie is a male, however the Polish chickens can be really hard to sex. Males usually have pointy crests, but I've seen female polish with pointy ones as well.


Since Herby is a bearded Polish, his/her waddles won't develop very much to tell gender. So for the best results, keep an eye on Herbie's tail feathers for any long sickle shaped feathers, if you see those, he's a boy for sure.

Herbie looks exactly like my gold laced polish! I would say for sure cockerel!

We are afraid Herbie is a cockerel. That's why my daughter named him/her Herbie, because she want it to BEE a HER. We thought so early on but then all the other 12 week old males have started crowing and Herbie has been very quiet. Maybe this is normal for the Polish?
