From my personal experience - too good to be true
Hello and welcome to BYC!Glad you joined.
Cockerel.
The no crow collars have killed many roosters.
I am of the opinion that they are too risky to use.
I am also of the opinion that roosters are meant to crow. If you cannot keep him, rehome him. I had no trouble rehoming this young man by posting him on CL and 2 local FB poultry groups. He went to a lady with four lonely hens. He was in his glory.

It was hard for me to give up Dexter but he was supposed to be a pullet and I had already ordered a cockerel. So I ended up with two cockerels that were tag teaming my poor girls. Someone had to go.That rooster is too cool for school.
Thanks for the advice... I can imagine that the line between not crowing and not breathing is a fine one.
And as far as them crowing, I was thinking the same thing. It must feel awful to try to crow and then have some sad feeble sound come out.
Thanks for your thoughts![]()

Picture a rooster with a no crow collar on. Then picture a feeding frenzy and he swallows a larger than normal amount of food... and starts to choke. Then dies. It's happened.
