at 6+ mo cockerels crow and mate. it looks more like cockerel, but if it is 8 mo then might be a girl. some girls do have somewhat pointy saddle feathers (eg. isa brown).

Except for in specific breeds of specific quality (long-tailed phoenix, for example), hens don’t have pointed saddle feathers. They can have patterns on their back that makes it look like the feathers are pointed, but they aren’t really.
