Genders

I have seventeen white silkie chicks and, I was wondering if you could tell me what genders they are at only three weeks old. Eight of them have large combs, and nine of them have no combs at all.

Typically male silkies have prominent combs and wattles while the females are almost non-existent.

So, the eight with large combs are probably males?

Silkies tend to be rather hard to sex...I would wait a while longer and then post pics for us.

Okay. It's SO fun watching them run around in the grass! They are so loud!

I wish I could sex silkies at 3 weeks old!

If they are showing any comb development at all at this age, most likely male. The ones showing none could go either way!

I hope I have mostly females! (But I need to have a few males!)

do you have any group pics? the cockerels maybe slightly larger than the pullets right now

One of them has a large comb and is the smallest of the group. They were hatched September 17.
