the Barring gene will make a birds shanks color light(except silkies because they have fibromelanotic)What about his legs..? they are light and i know marans legs are dark..?
Not in all color varities. In several, the shanks and feet are white with pinkish cast. What about his legs..? they are light and i know marans legs are dark..?
I have a question for those of you who have used the above chart to create Golden Cuckoo Marans . If I cross a Black Copper cock with a Silver Cuckoo hen, does anyone know what the F2 generation will look like? I'm guessing that instead of brown cockerels and pullets, you would get silver/gold. Am I right in this assumption, or would you actually get some browns?A Golden Cuckoo Marans is a either a Golden Salmon,Wheaten or Black Copper with the barring gene. They are an autosexing variety, and there is no need to go outside the Marans breed.
You can follow the plan ,just substitute Silver Cuckoo for Barred Rock, and Golden Salmon,Wheaten or Black Copper for Brown Leghorn.

The overly laced Black Copper hens and Golden necked Black Copper cocksare ideal for this project.
